I picked up a used Xbox from the local used video games store:
Xbox v1.6

From what i've learned on this place and others, i'm going to want an X3CE and the X3 replacement front panel.

Just one question: what's the current favorite online retailer that will have both products?

If you're going to get the x3ce (i have one as well) i suggest getting a solderless adapter ONLY because you got the 1.6 version. If you feel confident in your soldering ability then by all means go for the solder! but if you're new to this i suggest the Xapt3r v1.6 which you can find here:
http://www.xbox-modchips.com/xapt3r-v16.htm

Also to your question. There are plenty of places to get the panel however might i suggest this site:

Welcome to the HQ grantgorgen, we hope you enjoy the site and checkout some of the other sites we offer.

I think if you head over to 360.com youll find a man that has the tag scarface, he allmost allways has an X3 for sale and if he tells you youll get it, you will get it. Wink

how safe are the solderless options? they seem like if the machine is moved around it would slip and cause some shorting

If you go with the solderless solution be ready to open your xbox up a lot because sometimes they move. Solder solution is the best if you can do it because it doesn't move.

a note to everyone: make sure you check that all your parts are there. missing some stuff isn't good. On the plus side, my solder joints for the pin header look like the thing came installed from the factory... but ya, everything is done except for the reset/eject adapter.. (which wasn't included in my shipment by accident. my question would be... what does that actually do? If i have the x3 replacement control panel is that adapter necessary?
