I bought a HD and MOBO from ebay, and the dude said it was working when he put it away out in the Garage, but this is an as is auction. well when I get it the eeprom is missing among other things. there is an Eeprom taped to the side of the HD so i figure I will try to solder it back on and see if it boots. I was studying a tutorial about eeproms and it said that the pads 1,2,3,4 should go to ground when checked with a ohm meter. well pad #3 does not go to ground it looks like its taking a charge. I know it goes under the eeprom and terminates at r7c1 (resistor?) I checked this on two MOBo.s that are on the bench and One that was Hooked up to the xbox and plugged in none of the #3 pads went to ground. is there something that im doing wrong. trust me Im a noob and i know that this might be beyond my skill level. is there a way to read the eeprom while it is on the bench to see if it is good. I haven't made the eeprom reader yet but I will.

Yes I read that tut from UNICRON and those are the instructions that I plan on making the eeprom reader. but the #3 pin does not go to ground when it is soldered to a board. I have a loose eeprom that was taped to the HD that I got off ebay. and I have one that is still soldered to the mobo of the xbox that only boots when its been in the freezer for twenty minutes. I figured that I could take its eeprom and HD and place it on a different mobo. and that it should work, but Plan on building the eeprom reader to see if the eeprom that was taped to that HD was any good . If don't have to buy a 10.00 plus shipping eeprom then I'm just that far ahead. plus if I read the eeprom and its good then I can make any HD work Right? with xboxhdmakr. thanks for the help. Jack

Yeah man with the eeprom you can use any hdd to work with it.
Since all eeprom chips are setup the same on all ver. you can just pull the one off the bad board and put on the new ebay board the same way.

It looks tough. but great info I do have a pc that UBuntu could go on and Your info gave me a source for those 10.00 eproms cuz I got lots of Ram Laying around. I am still puzzled about the pin #3 not going to ground I wonder if UNICRON is still around?

Just to close this out, I built the eeprom reader and after a few failed attempts I got it figured out and it works cool. I read an eeprom that had been taken off a mobo very aggressively which broke off the #1 pin, well I was able to read the data and back it up to file eeprom.bin, then I took an eeprom off some old ram that I have and wrote my backup on it. worked great. thanks for the Help it is appreciated
