if is an x-2 or x-3 no, solider the pin header in to your mother board and your 3 wires,1. hdd activity light,2. network activity light, 3. D 0 point. then seat your chip on pin header (with the chip board facing towards the left side of the case and seat it firmaly) it is best in my opion to plug up your wires first the switchboard and D0 network.hardrive plug. if its any other chip i cant help you good luck

I am guessing that this is a topic for an X3 chip? If so dont worry about it the tutorial is for an X3 not a X3CE.

I think the old ones (from like 2003) had a soldered on pin header, though i could stand corrected.
