Post subject: New Video Card (HELP PLEASE)

I just got a hand-me-down video card that is a whole lot better than what I have now. I exceed all the system requirements to use it, but I am encountering a real problem with it. I am using a Compaq Presario 4090US (unfortunately) with its stock S3 Graphics Pro-Savage onboard video card. I'm trying to install an ATI Radeon 9250 PCI 256MB card. I have read that I need to disable the onboard card and enable VGA in the BIOS, but when I accessed the BIOS, I didn't see an option for disabling the onboard card. I did, however enable VGA. Then, when I started up the PC, I (using Microsoft ME) removed the video card from the display list, shutdown the PC, installed the new video card, plugged my monitor in, and for some reason my monitor isn't getting a green light (it's staying orange). I also tried installing the new card without hooking the monitor up to it; thinking maybe if I started up with my monitor plugged into my onboard card, I could install the drivers for the new card, restart and have better luck. However, I had the same problem. Basically, my monitor won't turn on if I have the video card in a slot. Any ideas would be extremely helpful. And before you mention it, yes, I have tried switching PCI slots with my wireless card and also tried (when enabling VGA), assigning different IRQs to the video card. Neither worked.

You're going to need to disable the onboard card. But for now u can at least install the new and plug monitor into new card. New card will run as VGA until drivers are installed. Then u should be able to go into BIOS and disable onboard video card.

Dont sound like your mobo can handle the card.

What kind of PC are you running it on?
