I was reading over a guide that seems to be very straight forward when it comes to swapping in a new HD. However, one thing confused me slightly and I wanted reassurance on it It basically said it was possible to "brick" your Xbox if this was done incorrectly (HD lock and all) This is only referring to the original drive, correct? If I have another drive and something goes wrong, I could still throw in my old drive and it'd be working just as before...?
The thing I'm looking at basically is a bootable form of Linux for your PC. You create an ISO with this and the original C and E files from your Xbox HD then it burns it all to the new drive in your PC. Seeing as nothing's been done to anything but the drives, I can't see how anything could be messed up on the Xbox itself

If you're talking about xboxhdm, then no. You're not gonna end up with a dead box if you screw up. What you can do is mess up the hdd you are trying to make. Really though, the only way you can do this is by locking it with an incorrect eeprom (hdd key) and not being able to unlock it again. You can prevent this by following the proper steps and backing your eeprom up. http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-tutorials-153.html _________________

Fair enough... Now I made a eeprom backup when I initially softmodded the Xbox. I assume this is what I need... Eh, tonight I can sit down and start playing around with it.

Well crap... The drive I had hoped to use doesn't support locking. I guess if I find another drive laying around I'll try it.
