So finally got around to softmodding my PS2 and was wonderin who all else has a PS2 thats modded either softmod or chipped. Post how its modded USB HDD or regular and what you use as your launcher. I have a new silver PS2 so I had to use USB advance and I use a 300GB HDD. My Elf launcher is the newest ulaunch elf and I used Independence Exploit Compiler to create the exploit.

I have the old school PS2 with hd advance and a 200gb maxtor hard drive. I have all my collection of PS2 games on the hard drive and it works great. Only trouble is sometimes you have to fiddle with the settings to get a game to work but other then that it works great. I only wish I could put my old PS1 games on it!! That would be so sweet. Very Happy

I'm pretty sure you can put PS1 games on there you just haave to patch the ganes to work, or maybe turn em into a iso or bin+cue file. I might have to try it and see if I can get it workin. Alot of the reason games don't work right is that they need to be patched or the settings need to be messed with like you said.

just been given a PS2 so want to mod it - dont want to chip it want to go the 'softmod' route.
Just got a copy of ActionReplay MAX and also got a flash drive kickin around and a ps1 memory card (do they work on ps2 ??)
What is the easiest softmod route to get the PS2 to play 'unsigned' discs ???
Any pointers gratefully recieved !!
Thx y'all.

If you have the old school ps2 meaning the fat one you should go with the hd advance program. It takes like five minutes to setup. All you need is the hd advance program and a network adapter and a internal hard drive. It is so easy to setup I couldn't believe it! My reactions were Shocked Razz Very Happy Laughing in that order!

Always been interested in how to mod the PS2, toyed with the idea a while ago when I had one, just never found a site as definitive for modding PS2's as this one is for doing Xbox's.

True cloud it dont seem as main stream as xbox modding unless you count the swap tricks but i want something that you can just turn on or pop a disc in since the kids the main PS2 player in the house.
