ok i looked on their site and do see that they do play this file format, but i was wondering what the quality drop is?

also if i wanted to put an Xvid file on a dvd disc would i have to make it an iso first, or can the file just be placed on there and burned?

Yes, as you said XBMC can play XviD (.avi) movies. The quality of the movie will depend on which bit rate you re-encode at - higher bit rate = better quality, lower bit rate = lower quality.

Although higher bit rates mean larger file sizes, these files will still be much smaller than the size of the original DVD.

Generally an .avi between 700MB and 1000MB is pretty good quality, but it will depend on movie length as well. I think The DivX codec even comes with its own bitrate calculator, to help you even more Smile

The .avi can be burned straight to disc (CD/DVD), no need for an iso, XBMC will read the filke format on the disc.

Hope this helps a bit Very Happy
