I have tried to install a SmartXX Version 3 Chip. The Xbox will power on, then the light will be green for several seconds, then flash green/red and say "Call Microsoft for repair" in several different languages. I do not have the hdd or the dvd drives connected but it shouldn't matter. I figure it is a problem with my chip install, so I took it off and decided to try and get the MS dash to load like normal. Still giving me the same problem. The MS dash should load without the drives being connected at all, correct? Thanks for all the help, I am really puzzled.

if you have the HDD and/or dvd unplugged you will get the error screen. The dash files are on the HDD so the dash cant boot without the HDD connected. The M$ bios system searches at boot and if it finds the dvd drive disconnected you get error 12.

reconnect HDD and DVD and try booting, post back your results

I have it at least back to a normal Xbox. I have a version 1.0, I am not sure if I mentioned that in my first post. A Thompson DVD drive. Anyways like you recommended I put the HDD back in. Still the same error message with the multiple languages. Then I said well I might as well put the DVD drive back in and try it. It works fine now. It is real strange to me that it needs the DVD drive connected, but whatever makes it happy. I am going to try the chip again but everything installed. I will definitely keep trying and any suggestions or reasons why the hell the DVD drive needs to be in place for it to work is beyond me.

so you screwed it to the motherboard? the solderless adaptor, and then put the chip on?

what kind of connector does it have on the solderless adaptor for the d0 connection? you have to make sure all your pins on the solderless adapter are connected good and the d0 is as well. if one is loose or off, itll do the flashing business.

is your chip powering up at all? led?

The solderless adapter has a green led on it, but not the orange smartxx chip. I just tried to connect the wires that came with the smartxx chip where they told me but most of them have to be soldered. In another tutorial they said that no wires on the smartxx chip had to be connected.

here is the link to the chip. It is the SmartXX V3, the newest one. www.smartxx.com The solderless adapter has a name but the website does not work. The name is X-Addons. Here is a link to the tutorial that I used. It is the first one under Solderless solutions. The X-Addon for v1.0-1.5. http://www.xbox-modchips.com/tutorials.html I do not know how you might be able to help me as the tutorials are step by step. But maybe you know something I dont. I appreciate all your help up to this point. I find it funny how the solution to most people's problems when they are softmodding are to put a modchip in. I might be doing the opposite if I can not get the modchip to work.

ok, good deal...im actually using an x-addon adapter with my X3 chip so i have installed one.

all you would have to do is screw the x-addon adapter down on the mobo, then put the chip on the pinheader...if you are doing that, and its not working

either the chip or the adapter is bad.

the x-addon adapter is probably the easiest adapter in the world to install in the land of solderless adapters. doesnt it have a little point out to the right that presses against the mobo as you screw it down? thats the d0 point.

so when you screw it down, then put your chip on that...it just flashes?

by the way, where did you get that solderless adapter, ive been looking for a place i can buy those by themselves.

if any way possible, take a couple pics of the adapter on the mobo...or just a picture of the adapter

you are positive your box is a 1.0?

I have everything removed right now because I just wanted it back to normal. I am sure I have the solderless adapter on correctly because it is just one screw and make sure the d0 point and all the other points are touching the mobo. The chip I think is where I have messed up. I dont have any of the wires connected on the chip and I also removed the piece that said remove d0 before I realized the manual said not to for the solderless adapter. I may have just broken my expensive chip by removing that piece. You are in Texas. So am I. I am in Houston. Are you anywhere close by, maybe I could give it to you to fix or just give you all the stuff if I can not get it working. I got the X-addon adapter from that website. www.xbox-modchips.com It came with my SmartXX chip.

dude i wouldnt mind at all taking alook at it, but youd have to mail it. im close to waco...kinda in the country.

it wouldnt have broken your chip, you just might need a new adapter. cause that little piece is needed im sure.

see i have never installed a smart x chip...i have heard alot of good things about them though and they seem easy to install...i bet the only problem is that you removed that little thing, but cant be sure of it.

is this your first install? the first one with a chipped box is always a big learning process...or it was for me at least. i completely messed my first one up...its the way to learn. like i said, we can keep troubleshooting it on here, or you can send me your stuff, its whatever man. ill be glad to help you out either way. and im sure others would also.

Do you know how to solder, or have you soldered chips on before. Even if you havent I would much rather send it all to you instead of back to Canada. I am not sure how much it would be to send it to Waco, but cheaper than canada for sure.
