I have performed many softmods on working xBox's, but recently a friend brought over his xBox which is Original Dash, with an Error 16.... I ordered a Xenium Gold and have installed it and can get the unit to boot Lock/Unlock Perform all other functions of the modchip, I have AID4.0 and SID5 and have tried several methods of trying to get the unit to boot without the chip in.
First I will continue to get the Error 16, then I will get the Error 21, and on occasion will just get a flashing red light error.
I have tried to restore the drive with the 5960 MS Dash and it still won't boot on it's own, tried XBMC it still won't boot on it's own.
Am I missing something here? Is there a way to find out what BIOS is on the existing motherboard? with the xenium gold I should be able to reflash the bios?
Any Suggestions are welcome...

Backup any game saves you want to the PC then format the whole drive and start from scratch. First install MS dash with AID then backup eeprom and MS dash then install the softmod again.

I have performed most of that already. Format HD C;E;F;G;X;Y;Z...
I can get it to boot just fine with the Xenium Gold installed, but I want to be able to remove the chip for future problem xBox'x.
One other Note, I can bet the M$ Dash to boot up, then copy my mechassault game save over, then when I boot up Mechassault and select Run Linux, it just restarts Mechassault.
What I noticed is there is no F: drive on the Hard disk and When I FTP to it I see Drives C;D:E;X;Y;Z but when I click them nothing shows up, but when I use the AID filemanager I can see files on the disk.
I will try with your exact instructions:
Format All; Install M$ Dash; backup Eeprom; backup M$ Dash.
I normally use XBMC softmod, is there one that may work better for this particular problem?

I would try SID 4.5 and install unleashX as the dash

Well that has now been tried, every time I remove the modchip and reboot I get a flashing red only light...
Another thing I noticed is I can FTP to the xBox using FlashFXP, but only see drive letters nothing inside the drives, and I did verify there are files in the drives.
The box I am working on is a V1.0, but Xenium Gold states it is a v1.1- v1.5
