For our "print server" we have a older computer that has a 601Mhz Intel Celeron with 640MB of ram. it just has a wifi card so everyone can print wirelessly. well i began to "crunch" movies i would copy them to the xbox then ftp over to the "server" then use dr.divx, and it would take an average of 12Hrs. to convert a movie with it. during that 12hrs it was at 100% computer usage... and its a stock case with 2 fans one for PSU and one in the back of the comp, maybe a minature on the cpu heat sink. anyways i got anxsious and did 1/2 a movie then started another, making it work for over 18hrs striaght, and then i did maybe one more.. now 1/4 through a movie i get a memory error. and if its left up to long you get a memory error. if it happens again i will take a screen shot.. any suggestions? overheated and screwed?

Increase the virtual memory on it and make it utilise more of the HDD for virtual memory space.

What version of Windows is it? If it's XP, its done by:

Right Click on My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced Tab -> Under performance group select Settings -> Advanced Tab -> Click the Change button under Virtual Memory. Now, initial size should be 1.5x the amount of RAM you have (so in your case initial should be 960Mb). Now set maximum size to 3072Mb. If you have more than one HDD in there, do the same for each drive.

Now click OK, apply everything and see how you go. Remember, Virtual Memory isn't a replacement for RAM, it works alongside it. Video converting uses a load of RAM and CPU power, so at some stage a RAM upgrade might be in order.
