Ok, sorry if this is in the wrong part of the forum but im a newbie to x-box chips etc....
I bought my x-box off my brother who got his x-box chipped an stuff so i started buying a few original games because i havent got a dvdr which burns dvdr- discs which is what i got told the xbox takes. I bought Fable and went to play it and it doesnt work, there are no scratches on the disc.
It will only work after playing a different game ( for instance, NFS: Most Wanted, copied) but it wont work on either the chip or the original dashboard.
I dont know what chip i have but what i do know is that when i am loading the chip i have to keep the On button pressed in for around 5-10 seconds, then a red X appears in the top right corner.
Can anyone help me on solving this??
Thanks

I know you're new, so if this makes no sense let me know and I'll give ya step by step as needed.
Sounds like you simply need to clear the cache on the "E" drive.
Go to the Xplorer, go to the "E" drive, then delete everything in the cache.
Sometimes old games will lock up other games.
It's bazaar but it will work for the most part. _________________ http://twitter.com/HQ_Shark2th

If you press the "white" button, you can remove the files individually. Alternatively, I believe you can press "Y" on all the files you wish to delete, (will highlight them yellow), then press "white" and select delete.
Ok i deleted the cache file and rebooted the console and inserted the disc whilst it was restarting, but again, nothing and when i click My Files which shows everything within the console, it claims the DVD Drive is empty after trying to loading....
Even tried it on normal boot but again it stated " the disc is either dirty or damaged ", even though there isnt a scratch...
What other options do i have??

Is the xbox old enough or had enough play on it that the dvd drive could be on its way out? _________________ Xbox V1.6

Maybe but the thing is, it runs my other games, battlefield 2 (copy) works and both my splinter cell games work ( 1 original )
I dont understand whats up with it, maybe the lens needs a bit of a clean or something but it just doesnt like me trying to play Fable...

Anyone else have a copy of Fable you can try on your box? It might be a problem with the disc.
Iam new here, don't trust me 100%! Do u have dvd2xbox (make sure the latest one 7.8 or at least 7.7) try to save your games with it. If you can play all the games from HD (after you saved by dvd2xbox) with no problem at all, probably the drive is cranky(is that Thomson??)
If yes, just try to get others media brand (make sure DVD-R).
Thomson is the worst(very picky to read the disc) in XBOX history.
Samsung/Phillip is the best.
About the red X on the corner, IF Iam not wrong that is evox bios logo.
Anyway, Good Luck!!
Note: burning disc on PC sometime little tricky, first of all, for theThomson drive, about the speed, media and program that you use...etc...that's why first try the dvd2xbox first.

Well i know my games work on the HDD because my brother (who i got the console off already chipped) had put Def Jam: Fight for New York on it because running it by the disc it was really slow..
So i have a lead that can connect my Xbox to my PC but i heard you have to FTP the game over so i might try that, the only problem is i dont know how lol, is there a FAQ/Tutorial on how to do it anywhere?

Ok, what original games do you have? Do they run fine on the box, from the DVD drive?
Its worth noting, that the copying of games you don't own or transferring of games from the PC you've downloaded is illegal. No support will be offered if this is the case.
If the cache folders have been cleared and you're still having the same prob, then either there is a prob with the disc, or the DVD drive. Thats why I need to know if the DVD drive runs other games.
Yeah the drive runs most of my other games although if say i leave the game on pause for about 5 minutes and come back to it and try to play it, after about 1 min it will come up with the error " disc is either dirty or damaged "...
Most games dont do that but there are a few ( my copied games which my brother had )...
The game im trying to get to work is Fable which i bought from gamestation so dont worry, it is a legal copy No-one else i know has fable or an xbox for that matter so i cant test if it is my game....
About copying over from PC To XBOX HDD, if i put the disc into my pc, do i copy all the information from the disc onto my HDD and then transfer it over via FTP (Flashget or Flash FXP i presume) ???
Also, the game has worked before, but its only recently that the game just wont be accepted either on the EvoX dashboard or the original.
Thank you all for your help by the way, much appreciated....

Ok, well it does sound like the drive is on its way out by the sounds of it. The pause thing is the biggest giveaway of that, the laser loses focus when its in the same place for a prolonged period of time.
Remember that a PC DVD drive will not read Xbox games, so you will need 3rd party software in order to read the data off the disc. Extract XISO may do the job for you, but you'll have to see.
Do you know what make the DVD drive is that you have in the box?
