Ladies and gentlemen they said it couldn't be done! but i have discovered a waya that us fellow softmodders may enjoy the greatness of a slimline xbox - WITHOUT the need of a chip!!!! How you may ask? well for a small fee.....nah just messing no fee this is free!!!!! It sounds barberic cos i have a few samsung dvd drives for xbox lying about im sitting there thinking whats a way round it???? so i ripped apart my dvd drive, unclipped the laser and everything from the pin board with the power and ide connection plugged it into the dvd drive slot and bam my softmod xbox with 160gb hdd runs fine with out a dvd drive!!!! obv u losee a dvd drive, but the advantages! still i dont know about the electrics cos i still assume theres electricity going into the board so it may catch firer i dont know as of yet this is unknown terrriotory!!!!

ok let me see if i understand ...i think you did what i was just think in of other day while trying to fix buddies drive....you removed everything but left the main component hooked up so it thinks it still has a dvd drive...since it sorta technically does?
