HI i have a order in for a x3 .
im shure i wont be able to play back up games without flashing it am i right ?
if this is true has anyone any tips or links to find such a bios?

i just signed up in the same position as you. You need to become a vip on this site. They have everything you need and they are always willing to help. just one question for you realmccoy or forahobby on the order of software.
- 1st I make a bios cd and put it in my box and it flashes it
- How big do I make the dummy file?
-2nd I then put in the evox auto installer and follow the directions for it

I'm not forahobby... not even realmccloy , but FWIW, I use a 100MB dummy file. I'm not sure every DVD drive needs to have the dummy file, but I use it anyway.
You need to flash the BIOS before you install EvoX. All the auto-install discs I've ever seen have a list of options for you to choose from. Most autoinstallers have tutorials that will run through what the options do, but you can probably figure it out as they're usually somewhat self-explanatory!

cheers i also read that the x3 will loose a lot of its features if i flash it do u think this is true

To answer some of your questions, I'm fairly certain the X3 will come only with Cromwell, a "legal" BIOS. You'll need to flash the chip with an "illegal" BIOS in order to take full advantage of it. As with any modchip, the BIOS will detrmine much of its functionality.

More than likely they'll keep Cromwell aswell, so you best prepare yourself...

Your bios that you pick will depend on a few things. First, what size HD you are going to use and second what xbox version you have, and also what drive you want your hacked dash to boot from.
Most people boot from the C drive, but a lot of people are getting Xbox Live banned fearing...so they like to put all the hacked dash files in the F folder as they feel MS wont scan that one. Personally, I use C and have never got banned, nor do I worry about it.
The HD size is important to take into consideration becasuse certain bios only have the ability to allow a HD to be formatted up to 137GB (6 partitions) that is why you see the .06 after some bios versions ie. Xecuter2 4983.06
A bios that supports a larger HD will have a .67 after it. The 7 iin the bios number means it also supports a 7th partition better known as the 'G' drive. Expample: Xecuter2 4983.67
Now, if you have a 1.6 version Xbox then you need a M8 bios as it is the only so far known to work on the 1.6 version machine. Keep in mind, you won't see a .67 or .06 after this one. So, look at the documentation of the bios to make sure it has the correct hack for the larger HD's. It's called the LBA48 hack.
Also, keep in mind that certain modchip flash differently. You should know this BEFORE you put your chip in. Xenium chips flash throught the DVD Drive, or the xbox HD via FTP.
Xecuter 2.3 lites and pro's use a programmer. This is something that you put the chip into and use you PC to flash.
The X3 is a new chip and I would hope they made provisions to flash via the DVD drive. Otherwise, make sure you have the correct programmer or cable purchased for when your chip arrives.
Without flashing a illegal bios..I prefer the term hacked bios....you won't be able to take advantage of your machine.

when i switch on the xbox it tries to boot up twice then it starts the 3rd time the xbox button flashes red and green and nothing is on the screen i cant even switch of the xbox i have to unplug it
Well ive just took out the x3 and oh dear!!!

Now the same thing happens without the chip!!!! its won start up without restarting 3 times also beeps and when it does start i have nothing on screen

Well the same things happened to a mate of mine that tried to install a X 2.6lite on his version 1.0 box......frags with or without the chip installed.
I'd also be interested if anybody's got a solution for this prob or an idea why its doing it.

Well, if the solderless adapter is in the machine when the chip is off then it's a connection issue with the solderless adapter.
If he soldered the pinheader in and just slid the chip off then it's the solder job..
The only reason the machine would frag is because of LPC issues. If it was something else, then he would be getting error codes like 13 or 21 with the frag..plus, it wouldn't frag immediately.
