How are you connected?
1. PC to XBOX (Crossover Cable)
2. PC to Router to XBOX (Standerd Ethernet Cable)
And is your XBOX modded?

I had loads of problems too when I first started doing this.
Other things to check are that the cable actually works and that your firewall allows that range of IP addresses as safe.
If you have a cable tester, test the cable. Some companies make software versions of cable testers too, so try that. _________________

Is there a way of connecting to the xbox over a wireless network (ie. wireless router connecting to teh pc and xbox) and having teh xbox and pc set to atuopmatic network addressing (dhcp)?
I have connected using lan cable and setting static addresses etc, but it would be much more convenient to be able to use the wireless network i have in place.
