I have enjoyed my modded xbox for a couple of years now ...but I am new to 'customizing and configuring' it - and probably should have left well enough alone ...but alas here I am.

The problem: my xbox no longer boots into my dashboard (Avalaunch) ...it just comes up with the basic xbox menu where you set the unit's time and other settings ...etc.

I know how this happened ...I was attempting to change the xbox to boot directly into xbmc by changing the .xbe file in the boot folder. Obviously I did this incorrectly -- but since my dash doesn't boot ...I can't ftp back into to re-instate the original file (which I renamed but left in the same folder).

I have attempted to get boxplorer v0.96 to boot off a CD or DVD so I could use that to rename the file -- but no luck yet with the 6 coasters I have created Smile

I know my xbox has and xecuter chip (x3 I believe) ... and about 2 weeks ago I updated Avalaunch and XBMC from my xbox menus ...but I don't know how to check any more details about what I have since I can't get into it ...

Help please ...

With an x3 chip you can simply hold the white button while booting to get to a x3 menu. In that menu you can go into x3 config menu and set the boot dash name. It can even be defualt.xbe.

Thanks for the advice ...I can easily get into the x3 menu (my xbox is v 1.6 etc etc) ...but no matter which .xbe file I choose, I can only get the X3 menu to load on boot - not the dashboard.

One thing that is strange is that when I FTP in now ...under F: drive it says <Empty Directory Listing> ......however that is where I made the change to get me into trouble in the first place. So it would seem to me that the dash is looking at te F: drive to boot, not the C: drive -- could that be? (NOTE: C: drive does have a .xbe file too, but nothing different happens when I replace it - I still have the original .xbe on my PC - or rename it, or choose any other .xbe from the x3 menu .....)

Just use AID to reinstall your dash.

All the advice has been great so far - thank you VERY MUCH. I am back into my xbox, I have got the dash working (I am using XBMC), and have installed the apps I previously had on the system.

One problem remains, all the programs/saved games that I had on the hard drive are no longer there. The file manager with AID sees nothing ...but the space available on the drives still shows the same as before -- so it seems as though I still have them there, but just can see or access them.

Do I need to delete some other files on the drive that are only allowing those files to be seen by the previous dashboard? (I have been fairly conservative about deleting files thus far so I don't get into a real jam...)
