Post subject: Xbox connection crossover cable etc

I just switched out my newest xbox with my oldest because I want to be able to mod and didn't want to mess with a 1.6 xbox. My 1.6 xbox was able to be directly connected to the back of my computer and was able to get online with it. Now when I connect my older xbox to the back of the Pc and set up the Ip and Dns on the old xbox, it says Ip not confirmed, how do I fix this. Also will that prevent me from trying to softmod the xbox?

you don't need to set DNS settings for networking via PC.

you do however need a crossover cable (or a crossover adapter, if your cable isn't already crossed) and you are not using a router/hub.

the way i've set mine up, is to go into network connections in win XP, right click on the network connection and select properties.

once you're in properties, select TCP/IP and then select properties.

from there >

set IP address: 192.168.0.1
set subnet: 255.255.255.0

leave gateway empty (unless the pc your xbox is connected to connects to the net via another pc or gateway)

close the properties.

now goto xbox network setup

set DHCP to off
set IP (static) to 192.168.0.2
set subnet: 255.255.255.0

set gateway: 192.168.0.1

and you then should be able to connect via FTP once you have rebooted the xbox.

you can of course change those IP numbers but you're best off using 192.168.0.xxx

gateway should be the IP of the computer you are connecting to that is used for the internet connection. (not needed if you don't plan on going online with it)

Dumb question for you, did you try using DHCP in your xbox settings?
If not, I would suggest trying it, connect your xbox to your computer then reboot your xbox and check your connection again.
BTW, how is your computer connected to the internet?
