I have a modded Xbox with (I think) and executer 2 chip and the 4982 bios and have a few questions about AID 3.1 which I have downloaded

1. I want to install a more recent version of XBMC from AID and get the Xbox to boot straight to it. Does AID take care of where to install it so that this happens or is there something I need to do.

2.If I copy my XBMC xml file and write over the new one installed will it work (took me a year and a day to network XBMC to my laptop).

3. Am I best off doing a complete fresh install of all the apps from AID?

4. Is it worth updating my BIOS (given my being a noob may lead to me screwing up the Xbox completely trying to do this)?

My sincere apolgies if these are really dumb questions. I have done some searching for the answers but I want to make 100% sure as my wife uses the Xbox everyday to watch US TV shows and I will be in the doghouse if I mess everything up!

Cheers

Hambo

With AID you have the option of installing the XMBC hacked dash as the main dash. You cant really use the old xml file, but you can write down the settings and change them again in the new dash.
And if the bios still works, why fix it.

Well are you trying to install the 2.0 ver? Ehter way just install it via AID3 and bam you can just swap the XBMC folder. I had an older ver but the AID has a newer one so the .xbe file will still work with out iusses. Just ftp a copy of your user data file.

thanks for the quick replies chaps!

When I turn on my Xbox it currently launches to a Xenium screen. I then have to make several button presses to get where I want to go (Launch Menu, Launch Avalaunch, Apps, XBMC ....yawn).

When I look in my drives on the Xbox there seem to be dashboards and xbe files everywhere I look! How do I know which drive to install XBMC to if I want it to be what the Xbox goes to when it is turned on? If this is all self-explanatory when using AID I apologise - I have downloaded it but won't burn it and use it until this evening.

Ok you need to make a shortcut .xbe file tell the file where to look for XBMC. There is a program that will make your file for you and you can make it up off of the xbmc web site. Next you want to find out if your boot up is evoxdash.xbe or xboxdash.xbe these will be your boot up file. So you DL the shortcut maker and make it for F:/Apps/XBMC (large HDD will have F drive, if stock then E drive) then that shortcut file.xbe you want to install that one in your C drive. you will rename the evoxdash.xbe to evoxdashold.xbe (that way if it doesn't work you can put in AID3 and use the filemanger to remane the file back so your not messed up and can't ftp) then you rename your shortcut.xbe file (the one you made using shortcut maker program) to evoxdash.xbe and your good..reboot and see what happens. The only other thing is what file boots your dash up which I think it will be evoxdash but again it can be xboxdash.xbe, so try the above first and if nothing happens and it boots up the same, you will know that the xboxdash.xbe is your startup file

Thats what we are hear for Very Happy I just did this to for the XBMC 2.0 just came out. but I had to do it diff then the rest for I have an apple and not a PC. the shortcut maker is for a PC only so I just slaped in AID3 disc and reformated the C drive. then just installed MS dash and then evox. I then setup the ftp on evox and then once I was able to FTP I toke the default.xbe file within the XBMC folder and changed the name on that to evoxdash.xbe and ftp all the files within the XBMC to the C drive and bam there it was. but you don't have to do anything like that. get that shortcut maker and make one up...then you will never need that program or file again. after you do that you can then just ftp the whole XBMC folder and have the lastest XBMC.

After your helpful answers chaps, I attempted an update of the ancient apps that were on the xbox (using the AID3 disc) and also managed to install a new bios (EVOXM8) and configured the xbox to boot straight into XBMC as this is what it is mainly used for. So far so good......

However, my G drive (which is a 200gb HD) has disappeared. As this held all my games this is not good!

I think I have worked out that the bios I installed does not support larger HD's but when trying to flash another bios to correct this using the Xenium online method I keep getting the message "File Doesn't Fit" despite trying to flash a 256k bios.

2 questions:

1.Which Bios should I use (there is a wide selection available from the AID3 disc) so that my G drive reappears?

2.Why am I getting the "File Doesn't Fit" message when I try to flash another 256k bios?

Any help much appreciated as my limited knowledge of such matters has been stretched to the limit to get this far!

Cheers for all your help so far

Hambo

the file doesn't fit is caused by a couple of things.

You are not flashing a bin file, or you have used up all your available flash memory on the chip.

The chip supports any combination of 256k up to 1mg. so 4X256, 2X512, or 1X1024, or 256+256+512, you get the idea. try removing one of the pre flashed bios, not the retail kernel, and flash the new one again.
