hey guys i was wondering if its possible to put an xbox dvd drive into a pc like an HP Pavillion. I bought an xbox dvd drive to repair one of my boxes but turns out that the dvd drive wasnt the problem so i have an extra dvd drive lying around lol. so i was wondering what i can do with it. would it do me any good to put two dvd drives in an xbox? like have two dvd drives and a hdd? let me know what you think. \m/Thor\m/

You may be able to use the drive in a PC, but you'll need to flash teh firmware.

Honestly, I think the only one that would be of any use would be the Samsung 605b, as it might be able to be flashed with it's big brother's firmware (the 616t). As far as the Thompson and Phillips, I know those drives are custom built for the Xbox (motor flip, anyone? same goes on the Samsung) and no firmware was ever released for the latter two.
So do as Greven said, just sell the lesser drive.

well idk about selling it. my 1.1 has been busted for quite some time and i called up M$ about it and they want me to pay $80 or so because it has a "hardware issue" lmfao. ive been told a modchip will fix it. because it tries to boot 3 times, then i get red and green lights (christmas lights problem). i cant salvage the 8 GB hdd because the bios is shot and i cant hotswap so what i have is 1) an unlockable hdd 2) a new thompson dvd drive and 3) a shitty motherboard in need of a modchip.
till i get the modchip im stuck with my 1.5 (i think its a 1.5) and my other one is with my friend for a while. i want to put together a cluster of xboxes and surf the net and play games and all that fun stuff but i cant just yet lol. but if any of you live near me (Oxford NY) then send your broken or unwanted boxes my way. ttyl \m/Thor\m/
