Question is simple, answer... I dunno!!!
I tried to plug the xbox hard disk to my PC. I can see hard disk "hardware", but the partitions are "bad".
Is there any software or utility to browse xbox hd from PC without using LAN and xbox?? I need to "save" some files, but i think my xbox is damaged, and maybe the hd too.

I know that forahobby has successfully hooked up xbox HD's to PC's...not sure how it's done.
He is on a much different time zone, so I am sure he'll be able to respond tonight at some point.
I would think because the HD is locked is where you have issues viewing it on your PC.

I have tried this myself and have had no luck.. The only way you can use a XBOX HDD in your PC is to UNLOCK the XBOX HDD and then insert it into your PC..
You will then need to FDISK the HDD and give it partitions compatible with windows, format and then you can use it..
You cant just plug in a CONFIGURED XBOX HDD and expect to see the files on your pc.. ThIS WILL NOT WORK!

Sorry but no.. You must connect your xbox to your PC network and FTP files to and from your xbox and pc..

I dont know much on modding so someone correct me if I am wrong, but if you powered up you PC & XBOX, then unplugged the IDE (not the power) from the xbox hard drive & plugged into a free ide slot on your computers motherboard, wouldnt the PC pick up the unlocked drive?

I am sure there is a way. One thing for sure though is you would have to make sure you set the Xbox HD to slave as it is currenty set to master.

Well, I think you would just have to use an open IDE slot, put the xbox on its own ribbon to the PC motherboards second IDE slot, if its free.
I just ordered a refurbished box to open up & play with. I will let you guys know if I make any breakthroughs

IF YOU WANT TO USE A XBOX HDD IN A PC YOU MUST UNLOCK IT THEN FDISK IT BEFORE YOU CAN USE IT!

I found a site that uses a Linux PC & 'xbrowser' to access the HD once the xbox has booted up & unlocked the drive.
I assume xbrowser reads the xbox format... can xbrowser be used with windows???
