you need a MAX 232 ic chip
5 non polarized capasitors at 0.1 micro farads
an ide cable (real old)
a RS232 cable which i think is phone line cable
and platine is just your Breadboard basically the one in the image is the cheap version of one lol

Do you have all that?

I could draw up a better schematic but it will take some time

I'm thinking he is confused on the rs232 wire, as that's a 25 pin wire, where he only shows hooking up 8 wires, and then says to plug it into a serial connection, I'm thinking any standard db9 wire will work with this.

yes i have all of that stuff. the blank board i have is from radio shack and its about 6 inches long and 4 inches wide. but i dont think theres any wires or anything on the inside of it...its just blank silicone. i have the DB9 end of the cable as well as the 25 pin end. it came with both ends and i just cut it in half. im using the DB9 female connector to connect to the male serial port on my computer. the thing im confused about is the colored wires inside it. idk which wire goes to which pin lol and the schematic doesnt really show which ones are used. also the power supply...ive read about it in the forums at llamma and some of the ppl there used an old usb cable and just used the red and black wires. one of them made his interface so small that he fit it inside an old BIC lighter lol it was pretty cool looking. anyway thanks for the help..i would appreciate the revised version of the schematic hellblazer55...i can wait. \m/Thor\m/

ok hellblazer i think i got the wires figured out. i used an old led and a 9v battery to test which pin was which wire. the schematic shows that the 9th wire (grey) isnt used in the interface. and the 6th pin/wire on the IDE cable isnt used either. 1,4,and 6 on the DB9 are connected to each other, and 7 and 8 are connected to each other on the DB9. on the IDE cable 1,2,5,and 7 are connected. AM I RIGHT? i hope so lol. the Max232n chip just arrived today. i hope its the right one lol the ebay auction i got it from said it was a Max232 not a Max232n so i hope theres no difference. now all i have to do is figure out how to get this all together. the board im using is a Radio Shack model 2760147 1CB96 PC Board idk if you can look that up but thats what it is. lol. anyway get back to me. idk if i even have to use the board lol. i saw one of these small enough that they put it inside a BIC lighter so lol. i have to get an old usb cable that i can use for the power. so i have so time. ttyl and thanks \m/Thor\m/

Great thinking for the "light tester", very good idea on how to make a quick easy one.

As far as which pins to put together you have it correct, looks like you got everything ready, I've never heard of this method, seems very useful.

You'll need a resistor to drop the voltage down to 3v, not sure off the top of my head how many ohms it will have to be though, need to know the amperage of each led to figure out what resistance you need.

i just recivied everything to make this, i understand the schmatic. just one question tho. on the polarized capasitors one lead is longer then the other one. dose it matter which way i put them. i know this is a noobie question but hey it's in the noobie central section... any help would be great....

link to schmatic:http://www.llamma.com/xbox/download/ST310014ACE%20unlocking%20tutorial%20english.pdf

this are the polarized capasitors that i got: http://www.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?KeywordSearch

the longer wire is the positive lead for the capasitor but all capsitors are made differntly also but usually its the longer one thats the positive.

hey guys i followed that schematic to the T and i cant get this to work. i use my xbox for power and when i connect using the Hyper Terminal i cant see the screen i should be seeing. i mean its there but its blank! wtf is wrong? did i solder wrong or did i use the wrong capsitors? the ones i used didnt have a shorter end. both wires were the same length. so i dont know what i did wrong. should i have an IDE cable hooked up also or just the power and the interface i made hooked up to the hdd? i used the usb power option for the circuit. so i have a usb cord, com1, and the ide thing all hooked up but nothing happens. i sat there for like 3 minutes and it said it was connected but i couldnt get to the T command prompt by hitting ctrl-z. so i dont know what to do now lol. please help me out! \m/Thor\m/
