PIN THIS!!!!!

If you have this error try this first:

Limited Network Connection

Your console didn't obtain an IP address from your DHCP server. An IP address is usually required for your console to contact your PC with Windows Media Center. Check your network connection in Network Settings.

CAUSE
This issue occurs when the Xbox 360 console does not receive an IP address from a DHCP server.
Note The Xbox 360 console is set up to obtain an IP address from a DHCP server.
THINGS TO TRY
1. Verify that the network settings for the Xbox 360 console are correct for your home network. To access the network settings on the Xbox 360 console, follow these steps:
a. From the Xbox Dashboard, move to the System section.
b. Select Network Settings.
c. Select Edit Settings. You can view the network settings on the Edit Settings screen in the Xbox Dashboard.
2. If you use a router or a gateway device, make sure that the router or the gateway device has DHCP enabled. For more information about how to enable DHCP in the router or gateway device, see the manual for the device or contact the manufacturer of the device.
MORE INFORMATION
This issue may occur for different reasons. You can use the Media Connection test in the System section to help diagnose network-related issues. To access the Media Connection test, follow these steps:
1. From the Xbox 360 Dashboard, move to the System section.
2. Select Network Settings.
3. Select Test Media Connection to start the network test.
You can also use this test to troubleshoot other network related issues.

Note There are two network tests available in the System section of the Xbox Dashboard. One network test examines the Xbox Live connectivity. The other network test examines the connectivity to a Microsoft Windows-based computer.

A lot of people are having trouble with this and I'd suggest trying xbox media center connect as opposed to going through a media center pc. Also make sure you DMZ your xbox. Here's an FAQ direct from Microsoft. If all else fails, talk to an xbox scene mod on IRC, or google and troubleshoot.

Networks not using DHCP

If you manually assign IP addresses to the computers and DMRs on your network, or if you allow your computers and DMRs to obtain their own IP addresses (for example, by using AutoIP), the computer running Windows Media Connect must meet one of the following criteria:

*
Your computer must connect to your DMRs through an Ethernet hub or switch.
*
Your computer must directly connect to your DMRs through a crossover Ethernet cable.
*
Your computer must directly connect to your DMRs through an ad hoc wireless network.

Networking and Sharing
4.1 What are the network requirements for Windows Media Connect?
Both Windows Media Connect 1.0 and Windows Media Connect 2.0 are compatible with most common home networking environments. Windows Media Connect 2.0 has fewer network restrictions than Windows Media Connect 1.0. The requirements for each version are listed below.

Windows Media Connect 2.0

The minimum requirements are:

*
A computer running Windows Media Connect
*
A wired or wireless network
*
A compatible digital media receiver (DMR) that is on the same subnet as your computer (most home networks consist of a single subnet).

You can connect your DMRs to your computer in a variety of ways. Windows Media Connect supports the following connection methods:

Using a router

If you have a wired or wireless router (also known as a gateway or base station), you can connect your computer and DMRs to it. This is the most common connection method.

Using a hub or switch

If you have an Ethernet hub or switch, you can connect your computer and DMRs to it.

Using a single NIC

If your computer has a NIC with a single Ethernet port (a single NIC), you can connect a DMR directly to it using a crossover Ethernet cable.

Using an ad hoc wireless network

If you have used your computer to establish an ad hoc wireless network, you can connect your wireless DMR to it.

For assistance in configuring your network, see Windows Help and the documentation that came with your networking hardware.

Windows Media Connect 1.0

The minimum requirements are:

*
A computer running Windows Media Connect.
* A wired or wireless network with a private network address (you cannot use a public network address). Your network address must be within one of the following ranges:
o
10.0.0.0–10.255.255.255
o
169.254.0.0–169.254.255.255
o
172.16.0.0–172.31.255.255
o
192.168.0.0–192.168.255.255
*
A compatible digital media receiver (DMR) that is on the same subnet as your computer (most home networks consist of a single subnet).

As discussed in the following sections, the other networking requirements vary depending upon how your computers and DMRs are assigned Internet Protocol (IP) addresses.

Networks using DHCP

If your computers and DMRs obtain their IP addresses automatically through Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), the computer running Windows Media Connect must connect to your DMRs through a wired or wireless router (also known as a gateway or base station).

In some cases, you can substitute an Ethernet hub or switch for a router. However, if the DHCP server connected to the hub or switch provides a network address that is outside of the required address ranges, then Windows Media Connect might not work properly.
