Hey guys. I'm a n00b with Softmod so I apologize ahead of time.
I'm going to install a 40GB hard drive in my Xbox this weekend. I would like someone to confirm- all I have to do is copy the eeprom backup, C and E over FTP and use xboxhdm 1.9 and use a PC with the HD and xboxhdm disc, right?
I used Splinter Cell and SID 4.5 Nkave. I chose the Dual-boot/Gamesave slot open because I didn't have the latest MS Dash and I don't get on Live. So far, I installed Evolution-X with SID and I used AID 3.0 to install dvd2xbox, X-DSL, and XBMC.
I'd like to use XBMC as my Dash on the new hard drive. I see that AID 3.0 has XBMC listed in the "Install Dashboards (Softmod)" but, where is the Evolution-X (SID 4.5) dash located? If I put the XBMC Dash in C, will I overwrite Evolution-X?
Currently, I boot up to Evolution-X and then I choose XBMC from the "Launch Applications" menu and use XBMC for Applications, Emulations, and media. Can I install Evolution-X as an App in the XBMC's My Programs menu?
Sorry for all of the questions! I've been reading the forums a lot, but with something new to me I like to make sure I completely cover my bases so I don't screw something up! I spent two weeks reading stuff online before softmodding it to begin with.

hi well first lets worry about makeing the new xbox hd boot up then we can changes dashes and this and that .
since you softmod your xbox with sid 4.5 your real eeprom.bin is found in E/udata/21455somtin..... / 00000000000/backup/eeprom.bin here
look for a member called pirrup under his signiture you will see something called MS DASH download that as thats going to be in your C on xboxhdm1.9 once you have ms dash extract it and transfer all files to xboxhdm1.9/C folder you dont need noting on E. and for the record next time put single boot or dual boot closed evox open ux why? because when you put open= game save menu and someone comes and types a wrong button on xbox he/she can frag the xbox .
and did you knew if you never been on live you can do it with your bigger hd? yep for you make your 40gb hd put sid4.5 dual boot= retail . go on retail and you will NEVER get ban . of course if you cheat or somtine out of retail then thats a diffrent story..... anything else i might of miss please dont hestiate in asking. oh under my sig is how to ftp _________________ Xbox 360 Premium edition

Thanks for the response!
I found the MS files by pirrup and my eeprom and I'm booting the XboxHDMaker live CD. While following the tutorial you linked, I'm presented with the option to create an F drive since my hard drive is larger than 8GB. I typed yes and it had an error and recommended rebooting and trying again. I rebooted, but this time I said no to the F drive in hopes to follow the guide more closely. Now it says Building C-drive but it's been here for over 30 minutes. It's only a 40GB drive. What's going on? I'll try another hard drive with the F option and see what happens...
EDIT: The other hard drive accepts the F drive and makes me confirm it a couple times. Problem is, this is a SLOW drive (from a Dell system Pentium 3 1.0GHz!). Too slow to watch an uncompressed AVI from what I remember. Oh well, I'm just testing. This one is building the C-drive, we'll see how long it takes (should just need to copy about 180MB from pirrup's file...) _________________ Xbox 1.1, SID 4.5, AID 3.0, Stock HD

you did extrac pirrup ms dash before transfering to xboxhdm1.9 right?
how much buffer does it have ? and did you tamper with the xboxhdm1.9
settings? or did you just download it extracte it transferd files clicked
make iso win and burn to cd? sometiems if yes doesnt work then try y and that usualy works.... furhter more it can also be the pc . _________________ Xbox 360 Premium edition

Must've been the hard drive! The first one failed when trying to create F. The second one completed the process but wouldn't lock because it said it didn't support ATA security (I told you it was old!) I fortunately had a THIRD 40GB hard drive and everything worked perfectly. I used the C drive that I downloaded and the eeprom. I touched *nothing* else in the xboxhdm files. I'm putting the hard drive in my Xbox right now and I'll let you know how it went. I'm assuming I'll need to softmod again because the C files I downloaded will make the Xbox appear as retail?
I know it seems like I'm off-topic for being in the Softmod forum, but I'm going to be softmodding this drive and I want to use XMBC as my main dash on my softmodded Xbox so, we'll address that issue when I get there!

My successful hard drive kept freezing once in my Xbox. So I figured it was the drive and just put the stock drive back in. It's still freezing at one place- SMB Network Share in Movies in XBMC. no its not his files... smb has a issue i belive.... try erasing inside E/cache ..... and that should take care of your hd freezing. _________________ Xbox 360 Premium edition

It worked! Thanks for the tip! Instead of trying the bigger hard drive again, I'll just buy a newer, bigger one off NewEgg or something.

yeah i hate evox, just grab aid 3 burn it to iso and click on install dashboards ( softmods ) and it should do it , remember ur dash is on E not C ..... but i'd stay with unleash x as a dash and xbmc as app . _________________ Xbox 360 Premium edition

if you using nknave 4.5 softmod, just install xbmc from aid 3.0 or 3.01 from the hacked dashboards section not from the softmod section. ref

I had the same question a few months ago and mr Nknave told me this, and i have done sinds then a few mods and it was sucessfully.
But that is for the Nknave 4.5.
It is also written in the aid 3.0 manual as a note.
"IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are using the SID 4 system, install a normal dashboard to
E Drive, not a softmod one. Due to the way SID 4 is set up it won’t work any other
way."

LMFAO man.... he said to transfer it to E I know that !!!!!!! but still that has noting to do with install dashboards ( softmods) vs your theory of hacked dashboards.... as you choose your path.... i havnt tried hacked dashboards and i think they are for mod chips... i have sid 4.0 and i always install it from where i just mentioned... the only diffrense is that i do install it to E ..... i never said anything about C ..... _________________ Xbox 360 Premium edition

There are many ways to rome i think, but i do it so, Mr Nknave told me to do it and it works on several xboxén but with his version 4.5 and also to drive E, perhaps Nknave can say something about it.
