In order to install a larger HDD in a softmodded box, you're going to need to use your Computer or a Chipped xbox. Both tutorials can be found under the tutorials section, but I'll link them here for your easy reference:
Hope that helps, m8. If you need more help, just go ahead and continue posting on this thread. _________________ "That which does not kill you, only makes you stronger."
It sounds to me like he softmodded his Xbox and now wants to install a bigger hard drive. But instead of copying all of the information from his old system, he wants to start fresh. I want to do the same thing. I recently softmodded my Xbox with SID 4.5 and then used AID 3.0, but now I want to install a 40GB HD but not retain all of the settings. _________________ Xbox 1.1, SID 4.5, AID 3.0, Stock HD

If I wanted to install a larger hard drive with an already softmodded xbox - I would make an xboxhdm image and prepare the hard drive with the info from the hard drive you have already. The most important factor in this is getting the eeprom from your xbox in order to relock the new drive with the correct eeprom.
Then you boot to your new hard drive and - with aid disk - that will allow you to format - then install ms dash - then install sid4.5 savegames to hard drive - then reboot with original game - choose teh save game and remod. It will be ready because it will not see modified / softmodded fiels because you formatted c partition.
This is not the easiest way - im sure. Just the way that I would do it. _________________ xbox v1.0

Zeus, I recently upgraded my HD using just the plain C files downloaded from pirrup, and I just used the C files, my eeprom, and xboxhdm. I didn't have to reformat it, but I did redo the softmod. pirrup's files make it as if the drive is retail, even though it's larger. I backed up my movies and roms and put them back on after I re-did the softmod.
111hhh111, the xboxhdm tool will ask you if you want to create more partitions. For example, I used a 40GB drive and it created an F partition. I'm assuming that if the drive is larger than 120GB, it creates a G partition. I'm not sure what happens if you put in a drive larger than 240GB, or if they even make IDE drives that big anymore (isn't everything new and big SATA?)... _________________ Xbox 1.1, SID 4.5, AID 3.0, Stock HD

to make things less conplicated just put on xboxhdm1.9/C folder retail ..... so this means re softmod , @ 111hhh111 i dont see a diffrense from this softmod to the others . as long as you can load a dash and lock the hd eeprom.bin and your good.
xboxhdm1.9 will NOT ask for G it will prepare F and the rest of folders but once you boot xbox you formate F and G by using unleash x file manager highlight the folder(s) and click formate , half a sec that simple.
all drives will work as long as they are lockable and use the same type of connection as a reg ide.... _________________ Xbox 360 Premium edition

Hey guys, go back and read his post, he has already put the large hard drive in his xbox, it's working fine, he just wants to know if he can use AID to reformat his hard drive. This is no problem at all as long as you make sure to reinstall the MS Dash and the softmod from inside AID, please remember to not turn the xbox off until you atleast get the MS dash back on the hard drive.
AID is built to work with both hard mods (chips/tsops/etc) and softmods. It will work fine, you just have to do a bit of work (double checking everything), in order to make sure you don't just format your hard drive and turn it off and have a little brick. The best way to ensure this is to format, then install the MSDash, then go ahead and do the 1 click install and you should be fine. _________________

Just to clarify: Would it be possible to use the E:\backup\c\ folder from the xbox and place that on the xboxhdm dvd as the C drive folder? So that when the xbox boots up with the new hd, it boots straight into MSDASH?
And then if I format the upgraded HD using AID will I be able to do a SID format (i.e. format hd, install SID).
Or is it better just to use a backup of current SID'd C drive, and load straight into SID on the new install?
Also I remember from back in the day that some HDs are not lockable, can anyone point me in the direction of the best xbox HD? 160-200gb?
