for some reason the last three xboxes that I have softmodded (sid 3 -4 ) cannot play dvds from xbmc (aid 3disk) , the xbox just reboots when you put a dvd in - not a complete reboot just reloads xbmc (no flubber) and is unable to play the dvd unless you copy te files to the hd
now I have a chipped xbox with the same dash and it playes dvd movies just fine
same build and everything only differnce is the chip - vs - the softmod _________________ xbox v1.0

are they burnt dvds? or original copys? _________________

hmmm sounds weird, I know it has had problems with some types of dvd burned media, but not the acutal dvd movie its self. _________________

Ok this is how I fixed it - I installed dvdx v2 as an application from the autoinstaller deluxe 3.01 disk. After installing that application suddenly my softmodded xbox had the ability to play movies from the xbmc dash (which it could not before - it would just reboot (without flubber)). When putting in a dvd movie now xbmc simply boots dvdx v2 and that plays the movie.
It also sorted out an audio issue - where even with the advanced av pack - media would only play in stereo (dolby digital content copied to the xbox (whole vob files)) - now they launch in dvdx v2 and play in true dolby. Before installing dvdx v2 they would play but only in stereo even though I set the audio hardware in xbmc to digital with dts.
