Post subject: Xbox power button

Hi,

I have a modded Xbox that doesn’t turn on anymore from the power button on the console, the only thing that makes the Xbox turn on is the eject button which loads the original Microsoft Dash, even when it loads the MS DASH there is no way to turn it off because the turn off button doesn’t work, it’s like there is no electrical contact from the power button. I asked the people who modded the Xbox for me and they told me that there’s a specific problem with the motherboard (which is apparently very common) and that it would need to be entirely replaced in order for the power button to work again. They suggested that instead of buying a new motherboard I plug the Xbox in to a power bar and use that instead to turn the Xbox on and off. This method does work, but I was wondering how safe it was for the Xbox to be turned on and off with a power bar rather than the original power button?

Thanks for your advice.
Capo

Well, first of all, you can boot to your Hacked Dashboard by pressing the eject button to turn it on then close it before any dashboard comes up. just close it as soon as possible.

Second of all: what do you mean by safe? o.O If you mean will it cause the xbox to fux up, it shouldnt do anything like that. A power block sounds good.

Third of all, try not to just write a solid block of text. it's a bit hard to read. See how I space out my post? Very Happy lol

Thanks

Eddie

Hi,

Thanks for the reply and sorry about the text, I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "close it as soon as possible". When I press the eject button it turns on the xbox, the dvd tray ejects and then the MS DASH loads up.

He means press eject once to boot the xbox and press it again to close the tray almost immediately.

Well mine doesn't have that option I can only boot the hacked dashboard by pressing the power button...
Can someone explain why if I hold the power button for like 10 seconds my xbox will sometimes power on? Doesn't make any sense. I mean in terms of hardware does anyone know what is it that's causing this problem?

some chips have the dual boot thing with the eject and power buttons.

from the sound of it I`d say if you softmoded it with sid 4.5 you`d be back to normal again,

alternatively open your xbox cut the wire that goes to the eject button, insulate it & then reasseble your xbox.
