I am very new to the modding world, but have successfully installed my new Xenium Gold into my 1.6 without a hitch. I'm going through the noobs guide to the ICE chip, and trying to install evox but I can't pull up a d: drive to locate the bin files. I've used CD-RW DVD+R DVD-R and DVD+RW, but the xobx still isn't reading it. So far I've gotten the "Retail Kernel" installed but have yet to go any further. Any help or a point in the right direction would be appreciated.

Thanx

Nice choice in chips!
You can't use the "D" drive until you've installed a hacked bios.
I would suggest the M8 for V1.6 Xboxes for starters.
Once installed, then it will be able to read the "D" drive with the cd/dvd in it. Right now the M$ bios (or TSOP) isn't going to allow reading a disk to install a dash, but the Xenium dash should allow for reading a cdr that has the bios on it.
If you need more, just whistle and we'll help.

Thanx for the prompt response shark. I downloaded the bin file, and burned it on a cd-rw, but if i can't get a d: drive yet, how am I supposed to use the file? when trying the flash the bios, I get every drive but d:. Am I supposed to modify the bin file at all? or go through any special menus? Thanx again.

It's been a bit since I updated my Xenium with a bios and Rabid1 would by far know more than I on new developments but it should allow you from the Xenium OS to find the bios on the D. I can't remember if it's labled flash on the OS or if it's another word darn it. There's really no reason for the OS not to allow you to see the D drive, as long as the disk is in there first. Do you know what version of the Xenium OS is on your chip?

I have had that problem before and I have no idea why you are having trouble with the media if you have a 1.6....anyways if trying to burn to a 1.6 I suggest adding some mp3 files onto the cdrw or dvdr in order to beef up the disc so it makes it easier for the drive to read...and put the disc in and let it sit for a minute to fully go through and try to read....also try doing it a few times in there, not just once and then shut off your xbox...if that is still not working then you can ftp to it this way http://xbox-hq.com/html/postt3572.html ...either way you should be set real soon and then be able to use aid 3 to put everything else you need on there....if you have any other xenium questions give me a PM...later.

Unless you are running Linux, all disks need to be in XISO format.

You can make custom disks if you have the right utility to make the .ISO, then use DVD-Decrypter to burn the .iso to the DVD-R.

If you Download AID 3.0 there are several Bios flash disk .iso's in the folders that you can just burn to DVD-R and use.

this is actually a great guide written by pezzar at the TX forums on burning a bios/recovery cd...if you are going to pursue the cd/dvd route i would definitely suggest checking out this guide....

also you could try ftp, all depends on what you want...

Thank you all for your advice. I downloaded autoinstaller and flashed the evox bio from a disk (worked this time) I've successfully networked my pc and xbox, and I am in the process of trying to burn a game. Funny thing tho... when I was moving everything around I must've hit the input button on my TV remote (new TV) and the screen went blank. I was about to lose it, quickly looking up "LOST VIDEO" on these forums. Then when I hooked the xbox to another TV, it worked, so i knew I was an idiot. I was quite relieved. Anyways, thanks again for helping me out. Now the fun begins.

I've made an .iso from the files Ive ftped from the xbox game, but when i burn them using Nero or Sonic record, the xbox doesnt recognize the DVD+R in Evox. tried a couple different games, and a few burning programs, following directions explicitly, still not registering in the xbox. Also, when I try to launch DVD in the menu screen of evox, the evolution logo pops up, but then goes back to the menu screen., even with a DVD movie. I have to go to MS Dashboard to load the disk. What am I missing?

What kind of DVD drive do you have?

(Most of them only read DVD-R's or CD-RW's)

Samsung DVD drive. I have been using DVD+R. For some reason when burning with Sonic NOW, DVD-R are coming up corrupt/dirty, so Ive been using the +Rs that I have. I'll give the DVD-Rs a shot when I get home from work later tonight. THANX

Thanx LEE337, Decrypter worked on my DVD+r. It's strange that my PC doesn't read DVD-Rs though.
