So a friend of mine gave me his xbox to fix and it gets error 9 on boot, i popped mine open and plugged his hd into mine to make sure it wasnt the IDE cable and the same error comes back. I cant seem to find a definite explaination for this error yet, anyone know what it is and how to fix it?

This is a snippit from the Error Codes Tut. in the Tutorials section of XBox-HQ:
Service Error 09:
Info: Harddisk parameters (PIO/DMA/or size). Certain minimum size is required for a debug BIOS. According to llamma.com, error code 09 means "Xbox motherboard is having trouble communicating with the Hard Drive...this is probably due to an ATA controller on the motherboard and not due to the hard drive itself." When the error screen appears, the light around the eject button flashes red instead of green. The disc tray will not open and the system will not boot up at all. You could also have corrupt EEPROM settings. Solution(s): Make sure the jumper is on cable select (the new harddrives have many different options that you can choose depending on the way you set the jumper ..so just check it ,make sure someone didnt get confused. Try replacing the IDE cable. Get EEPROM backup

Or your harddrive is completely dead which means you need to chip your xbox and get a new harddrive. _________________

There isnt much on this error that I know of, but I do know that the harddrive is probably dead, if you have a back up your harddrive with the eeprom, before this happend then you could just get a new harddrive. _________________

well im going to try to hotswap the hd and just wipe it and see what happens. i think what may have happened is that the guy ended up trying to tinker with his hd and didnt lock it properly .... but there is no way to be certain.
