xbox booting to error 7 has my harddrive finally given up the ghost or is there a chance of savibg it

Usually not. Check you IDE cable just to make sure.
Hopefully you have backed up your eeprom to your pc. With that you will be able to build a new hdd.

I thought I Fubar'd about 5 xbox's and have recoverd them all with xboxhdm_v1.9 which is on this site
