Hi,

I'm getting my X3CE tomorow and can't wait to get it stuck into my XBOX.
Got AID v3.0 downloaded and ready - was going to use Slayers until I read about AID on this site - many thanks DJB et al!

I want to set up my machine as a media centre in my living room and transfer my 40GB+ music collection onto the HD (when I install the new one), as well as all the TV eps, movies etc. that I've already downloaded.
I've read that XBMC will truncate long filenames. Is it able to read the ID tags associated with my mp3s so I can navigate my collection or will I have to rename them? Can i use it to navigate between folders as I do on my PC?

Thanks for having such a useful and friendly site - No way I'd ask this question on XBox-Scene!

Cheers.

Nice.. Youll be happy with the X3. Plenty of members here are running them.. I havent used one myself personally but i think you will be fine and dandy.

No probs at all.. XBMC can really do anything you want.. It's so perfect.
You wont need another dashboard really.

It can:
- read mp3 id3 tags
- lookup from the internet
- stream over the internet - radio/mp3/video
- stream over your pc/network - radio/mp3/video
- Stream from a DREAMBOX (satellite receiver) to your xbox.

Just so much.. If you want more you just install python scripts and you can surf the internet, download movies, get news..

agreed, XBMC is the whole reason i bought a modchip in the firstplace. i mainly use it to stream movies/anime from my computer and it works great. it's the best piece of software ever written for the xbox in my opinion. you'll love it. the only downside i could find with XBMC is that its ftp server is a little slow (6-7mb/s) compared with say, unleashx (10-11mb/s). but other than that it really is perfect. if you want some more in depth answers check out xboxmediacenter.com they have a great online manual.

you cannot record anything.. Sad

You can only stream.. Just like streaming accross the internet or network.
A DREAMBOX satellite decoder can stream.. Its not 100% but it works for me.

You cant TIVO or anything like that on xbox..

No idea about your local area setup mate.
So theres no way i could suggest anything.

In Australia we have satellite tv.. So if you buy a DREAMBOX (satellite decoder) it is a linux BOX (PC) but looks just like a normal satellite decoder. the DREAMBOX has full ftp, mp2 streaming etc etc coz its written on linux and has many addons.

You can even buy a DREAMBOX which has a HDD.. Then you can record your satellite shows to the hdd..

put it this way gus, If someone wrote a mp2 stream capture app for XBMC you coudl record to your xbox hdd.. But i cant see anyone doing this.

Especially when you can just buy a WINDOWS MEDIA CETNER PC an stream and record anyway.
