I,m wondering if i can install a bigger harddrive without softmodding the stock hdd first.
Heres what i had in mind.
Put the sid4 gamesaves on the xbox and run the installer. When the menu comes up select "backup eeprom".Soon as thats done, i ftp the eeprom backup to my pc.Now i shut the xbox off and restart it without the game in,delete the gamesaves. The stock hdd should not have been changed right?
Now that i have the eeprom backup, i should be able to prepare the bigger hdd with my chipped box or xboxhdm.
That seem right?

This is correct.
Either way, if you prepare your hdd in chipped xbox or xboxhdm, make sure you lock it with proper eeprom and i suggest xboxhdm so you don't mess with your chipped xbox.
