I have an XBOX that was giving me a 16 error. I have a chipped box so I used Pirrup's chipped box hot swapping tutorial to restore the M$ Dash. I got AID to load but when I tried to copy the files it would come up with an error. I tried doing the normal hot swap with a pc but still no good. After awhile I tried to ftp into the chipped box and transfer the copy of C: that I had but I could tell that the drive had a bad spot on it. I started to see some progress and the drive finally copied the files from AID. I put it back in the original xbox and I stll get the error 16...so I think that the hdd is just shot and it won't load the dash.
Now I have a theory...can I do a reverse hot swap?I have an original hdd from my chipped box after I upgraded the hdd. Lets say I take the hdd with the original M$ Dash on it, start it with my chipped box so it unlocks it, unplug the ide cable, start up the unchipped box, plug in the hdd after the dvd drive is located, and install the softmod. Will this work or am I just wasting my time?? I really don't want to chip it because...well because I'm lazy and cheap(I'm not going to lie to you good folks). Is the eeprom stored somewhere on the hdd or does a program like config magic actually read it from the chip???
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx...

The EEPROM by default is stored on the MO-Bo's BIOS. You can have Config Magic back it up to your E drive, by booting it, and having it back up the EEPROM, it will save it as a .bin and .txt file under E _________________ "That which does not kill you, only makes you stronger."

But will it read the bios if I hot swap it using the chipped xbox to unlock the non original hdd?? All the info in config magic may not be complete because it never really unlocked the hdd the chipped box did. I really don't want to try this if it's going to screw up anything...I figured someone would have tried it and wrote a tutorial on how to extract your eeprom by hot swapping using a chipped and an unchipped box. If there is a someone out there that has tried this let me know!!!

Every xbox has it's own unike eeprom that creates a unike hdd serial.
So, NO, you cannot unlock your other xbox hdd with another chipped xbox, unless you flash the eeprom of the chipped xbox, but don't mix the xbox versions, or end up with messed up xbox.
Just do a xbox to xbox hotswap, or pirrups hotswap. _________________ Xbox v1.1

Ok then there would be my problem...the chipped is a 1.0 and the unchipped I believe is a 1.4...If I found someone that had a 1.4 eeprom back up and the gave it to me could I use that as a patch of some sort?? I would do the hotswap and fix the drive but it appears to be damaged...there should be an easier way!!!!
Any suggestions let me know...
Thanx
