I downloaded the kawa-x mame and some mame roms, I unziped them and ftp'd them to my xbox I put the roms in the rom folder under the program and they will not work. I have tried them zipped, unzipped, in folders, out of folders. Any ideas. Thanks.

They should all be zipped, but if your program isn't recognizing the files and you are putting them in the correct folder (roms) the only thing that I can think of is this, because I too have had issues with certain games not showing.
I downloaded some NeoGeo and other brand mame roms and I never could get them to show up in the menu list. Then I found some patches for these, I'll call them brands, of mame roms. Once I threw the extra zip files in the rom directory all was good.
Now, I don't know if that is your problem, or if these roms are just not compatible with the particular version you have I am not sure. I am also wondering if there are different mameX ports which in turn could create some issues. I am still pretty new with emulation, but that is my best guess at this point.
I have just uploaded a few mameX roms today (10 in two packs of 5) and a few of them are Pinball Machine roms. Right now, my version of mame will not list them in the rom list either, so I am looking for some type of patch or something.
I'll keep you posted on what I find out, in the interim maybe someone else will throw some info our way.
BTW, if you are looking for any specific mameX roms let me know. I have over 2000 at this point.
