i already serched the entire forum but i cannot managed to find what i' ve been looking for.. anyhow does the retail dvd-drive can be swapped with an IDE one bought from store or it has some kind of protection? if so does the evox or the unleashx remove this kind of protection?

u speak in funny language.... anyways the stock dvd drive on the xbox has some sort of offset or something so it reads xbox games wich is why if you put an xbox game in a computer it will say play a movie saying to put it in a xbox but you can put a bought dvd rom in the xbox it just wont read xbox games it will read them as a movie just like a pc but it will read burned games ok there is a wireing diagram somewhere or so ive heard hope this helps

ok thanks, sorry for my language i'm italian and i need to concentrate to write good english, yesterday i was too tired to write correcty..
so if i put an ide dvd drive in the x-box i can only read backups and movies but not original.. to play xbox originals i need to do some wiring? am i right?

yeah with a pc dvd drive ull only be able to read backups not original games ,
only a few pc dvd drives can be modded to read original games ,
i modded a samsung 616t , basically what you have to do is resolder the motor so it spins the oposite way , flash it with firmware from the xbox dvd drive and solder some wires :eject out /in etc _________________ Xbox v1.0/1.1/1.5/1.6a

only one last question.. those wires that go into the xbox dvd drive are only for opening it or they absolves other tasks wich are binded to the reading of the disks? or simply do i have to put them on if i only play backups?

if you just gonna stick a pc dvd drive in there
without modding anything , all u need is power spliter from the harddrive ,
and the ide cable of course ,
you dont need any wires from the yellow cable but it wont eject or close
