I was wandering what the biggest hard drive is that you can put in your xbox. I was also wandering what the fastest one is too. Also, is the Samsung 616T dvd drive the best dvd drive that you can put in your xbox? If not then which one is? Thanx

You can put up to a 2T hdd which is 2000 gigs.....never messed with the dvd drives so someone else will have to answer that for you however I have heard good things about samsungs...and you can find a general compatibility chart on aideluxe.com...later. _________________ Xbox V1.6

Hello, I am new to this whole thing and I just bought a Maxtor 200 bg hdd and have followed the steps to upgrade my hdd. When I loaded my new hdd into the Xbox, it gave me an error code #6. I looked this up and it means that the kernerl was unable to unlock my hdd.
Can I resolve this with a softmodded system or do I have to get a mod chip? Any help would be appreicated.

I'm not sure but I think that you would have to go buy a modchip. Don't go buy one yet at least though, because I'm also a newb and have never done that b4, but I own a copy of The Black Art of Xbox Mods and I'm not sure if I saw in there that u could unlock the hdd with a softmod or a modchip. So just hang on and I'll look for you. But don't go doing anything yet though.

Yes the Samsung DVD drive is the top of the line. It reads faster and from a variety of media, including reports of CD-R. Try that with your Thompson . It's easy to recognize a Samsung DVD drive without opening your box. Just eject the disc tray and if it has 3 holes in the tray then you've got one.
I don't know for certain, but didn't they put Hitachi DVD drives in the Xbox at one point (anyone)? i think u mess up durring ur upgrade toward the hdd.. what tutorial did u used? R U using maxtor 200gb 7200 rpm 8mb chache? dimond serious?

I knew I heard something about Hitachi DVD drives a while back. However, I didn't know they were that garbage to be equal to the Thompson. My friend had a Thompson and tried to play Morrowind back in the day, His shit was freezing up like every 10 minutes. That game is kind of demanding of the DVD drive if you know what I mean. I just cruised along with my Samsung . for starters there are two types of samsung dvd drives and two types of hitachi dvd drive.
1 samsung model and one hitachi model will play almost anything while the more recent models of each play nothing but retail disks.
as for hdd drives most dashboards and apps will only support a F & G drive, so if you go any bigger you`ll need to do some work to give any extra partions some funtionality. for the price of a huge hdd you could get a few smaller ones and run them all 1 by 1 using switches.
what the hell would you do with 2 terra bytes anyway???
I got 600GB across 4 hdd`s in one of my box`s and most of the space is used up with music (still got 150GB free)
