I just bought 10 DVD-RWs at about $30, I burned Shadow The Hedgehog to one, put it in my xbox and the CD status changed to No Disc. I burned at 4.0x, DVD DAO and Buffer underrun off. I know the ISO works, I already burned it to a DVD-R, but my Burner can only do 6x with DVD-Rs so it was too laggy to play. I'm using TDK Data/Video DVD-RWs, my old DVD-Rs were also TDK and they work well.
Should I be burning with a different method for DVD-RWs?
Edit: I should mention that I did it all with Alcohol 120% _________________ My Aki EvoX skin!

each dvd drive likes different media. and what do you mean its to laggy to play? burning speed has nothing to do with gameplay

Actually, burning too fast will make the games load slower. In a game like Shadow The Hedgehog, which doesn't preload, I'll end up running through a hallway, going through a door and falling through the floor.
Anyway, d'you think I should maybe buy some "proper brand" DVD-RWs? I mean, TDK is a kinda "home brand" brand, isn't it? _________________ My Aki EvoX skin!

burning to fast could cause errors which would be the only reason it would load slower that i see. but anyways. try burning a different game maybe or a movie to the dvd-rw's to see if its teh game your trying to copy or the media. but yea, if all else fails try a different brand

ahh, good idea. I would never have thought of that...possibly because I have been up for about 16 hours. Well, I'll try burning a copy of Soul Calibur 2. I burnt that too fast the first time I burnt it too... I gather that if it doesn't work, I should go yell at the people at Big W for a refund? _________________ My Aki EvoX skin!

Well, looks like I need some new DVD-RWs. I burnt SC2 and tried it, but I still get the No Disc DVD status. Thanks for the help, Funkydopeloven _________________ My Aki EvoX skin!

My burner can do DVD-Rs at 6x, 8x, 12x (I think) and 16x. I'm going to ring Imation at 10 AM today and ask if there is any way to burn slower.
BTW, sorry for the late reply, I went to bed.... _________________ My Aki EvoX skin!

hoo-fucking-ray. My mum got me some "high quality" $15 Datastream Professional DVD-RWs. Lets see what my Alcohol 120% log has to say about THAT!
10:31:20 AM #21 CDR -1046 File Writer.cpp, Line 304
Illegal disc
bloody hell, Can anyone reccomend a GOOD brand?
also, I called Imation. They were 'helpful'. I got told that Alcohol 120% is awful and that, and I quote, "Nero Express is the best software for burning DVDs.". NOT XBOX GAMES, DAMMIT! _________________ My Aki EvoX skin!

Hmm, I just got a 'brilliant' idea. I'm gonna burn all of the files for a game, probably Shadow The Hedgehog (great game, btw) EXCEPT fot default.xbe. that's going in my E:/games/gamename directory. What that SHOULD do is make EvoX read the DVD as an 'Unknown' DVD, but I'll still be able to play the game by booting the xbe. If I burn the xbe, I'll be told that the DVD is unknown and I won't be able to boot it. I think. _________________ My Aki EvoX skin!

By the looks of it, I'm gonna have to buy some GOOD DVD-Rs. Like Imation or Ritek. Thanks for helping, Funkydopeloven.
Edit: hey Funky, what brand of DVD-R do you use? _________________ My Aki EvoX skin!

Just a suggestion here, I use C-XboxTool for creating the .iso, then I burn the disk (Imitation DVD-R) at 6x using DVD Decrypter in iso write mode, and it all works fine, boots from disk etc. The games i've burnt play just the same as on the HDD, except they take a little longer to load.
(BTW, i have a samsung DVD Drive, dunno if this helps?)
Hope this helps,

Roo465: I'll try that soon. I don't think the drive really makes a difference either way.
Funydopeloven: thanks for the link, I'll probably end up with this. the only problem is, they're American. I might go on ebay.com.au later and see if I can find some. If I can't, I'll go to the local Tandy and see if they have any DVD-Rs and if they don't, I'll have to convince my mum to let me buy online. _________________ My Aki EvoX skin!
