i'm more than happy to take on the role of the admin for this project for ya FH. I'd love the chance to be able to give back to the community by setting up this module with you and administrating it. I'd do it for the sheer love of the underground scene and for all the members of Xbox-hq.com.
let me know what you think.

I'll give a stab at it real quick:

Host Name: <could be automatic via username (needs to be both xlink and site name)>

Link Program: <xbconnect/xlink kai>

Date/Time: <have some type of calendar with a clock and a time zone>

Host Upload Speed: <rated in Kbps>

Host Location: <just a blank where the user can fill in atleast his country, maybe a north/south/east/west addition?>

Max Players: <as it says>

Arena Password: <as it says>

Game: <drop down box of available games>

DLC: <check box to determine if the game is going to include DLC>

Comments: <multi-line text box for anything additional, such as custom rules>

I don't really know of anything else needed, in the comments you could say for example you want to play H2:CE which are modded maps that rebalance the weapons in halo 2. This is a very popular mod and we may want to try to play it some.

Holy sh*t! This sounds awesome! Very Happy
So educate me Predtech on how this would work. I'm not real familiar with the "online" scene.

Forahobby will set up a new page on the site that will, once it's set up, allow any MEMBER of Xbox-hq.com request a posting of an event/deathmatch/tournament that they want to host. By filling in the form they will inform the admin of all the necessary info like the time and date, geographical location of the host (simply for cusiosity reasons and lag reasons), the game title (obviously, lol), any mods (for example Halo mods or maps), Hosts screen name, password for the game so that we don't end up with just anybody logging onto the game that's NOT a member, the maximum amount of players for the game, what program the host will be using as a medium (Xbconnect/X-Link Kai), and any comments that the host wants to post anolgside.
Now, once the admin gets the email/application they will post the pending event on xbox-hq.com for everyone to see. We could also have an automatic email sent out to everyone who signs up for notification of postings of these events too, so that nobody misses out on any events. These events would probably be set up as a "first come first served" basis so that it is all fair and all the registrations (by the people who want to play in teh event) would be done online. Then we could also have a REMINDER email sent out 24hrs before the event happens, so to minimize any chance of someone missing an event they sign up to play.
All going well the host would launch X-Link kai/Xbconnect at the appropriate time (before the match, lol) and setup a PRIVATE arena giving it a pre assigned password that would emailed to the players along with their confirmation and reminder emails so that they know what the password is, that way we would avoid having just anybody logging onto the site the looking at the event posting page, seeing the password and logging onto the arena and joining even if they're NOT an Xbox-hq.com member. The players would all join the host in their arena by using the assigned password and then.................... Chaos would ensue!!!!!!!!!!!
All kinds of players form around the globe coming together as a union of Xbox-hq.com members, playing for nothing but glory in saying that they are the best. Afterwards, the host AND the winner would email the admin of the result of the game, therefore giving 2 forms of evidence of the result, hopefully avoiding any wrongly posted results and any fights over it. We could also do things like have monthly and semi annually and annually tournaments of the best of the best, judged by their standings in the league, and maybe have a prize for the winner. This part of course all depends on Forahobby agreeing to this and finding a donor/sponsor of the prize. Maybe a modchip manufacturer could donate a chip or 2 as a prize, and get a little advertizement out of it, who knows. But the bottom line is...... The possibilities are ENDLESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok..

Just to start ive temporaily done a basic setup.
Just to get things rolling.. Can you guys have a play.

You can now create your own tournament and people can join it.
I will soon add email notifications for all new tournaments if you want.
Also, all those features you mentioned sound great.

Just put the most high priority features at the top.
Ill work on high priotrity ones first.

So now, go have a play with the tournament section for now anyway and setup a new one of your own.

It wont take long to get this baby pumping i bet.
Hopefully lots of interested guys will get involved from the forums.

Heres my Halo 2 Tourny that is running now:
http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/modules.php?name=Xbox_Tournaments&rop=showcontent&id=1

and keep this topic active too guys..
Feel free to start your own.

btw.. it took me 2 hrs to code what i have so far.. lol

Ok, this is what i have noticed so far. I can still join a tournament after it's over and i can join multiple times, not just the once. Also i think you should put in a system that displays the appropriate time depending on where each individual is located. For example, i'm in Philadelphia and say it's 9:00am but i actually come from Dublin, Ireland and it would be 5:00pm over there, so i i wanted to have a friend back home join me in a tourney and the clock stayed at 9:00am for both of us instead of changing to coincide with our seperate geographical locations, well then confusion could ensue, unless we both knew the situation with the time difference, but let's take for granted that the majority of people that will be taking use of this service WON'T recognize the time difference, so therefore we should put in place a clock that will display the time of the tourney different according to peoples geographical location.........
If ya know what i mean. I don't mean to sound like an ass saying that FH, but i just think it would really help in setting up tourneys for people who mightn't take the time to realize the time difference. I will play in one of the other tourneys on november 2nd but i'm not sure what timie the tourneys will be at, considering you, FH, are in Australia and god only knows what the time difference is between us both. Let me know what you think of this situation.

I believe the Tourny times are set by the server times, which are on the Eastern Time Zone. This is a great start though, I also noticed on the admin site, if you go to edit one, it tells you that you have to enter an id number, I tried adding 1 to the url, but that took me to edit a review on Madden 2002 hehe.

Its slowly getting there.. hehehe
Just remember im coding from scratch so we get all the features that we all need and want..

Im working on the TIMEZONE thingy tonigt.. So all users will have the tournaments shown in their OWN TIMEZONE no matter where they are.

It will work of your forums profile GMT time setting:
http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/forums-profile-editprofile.html

So everyone make sure you have that set! Smile
I will eventually have a my profile area where you can set your own personall settings etc tc..

At the moment only the admin (host) who starts the tournament gets a email if people join.. YOU CANNOT JOIN MORE THEN ONCE.

I am working on the other thingy you mentioned abuot joining when it is closed..
