This is what we can call a newbie mistake.

I got my Xbox softmod 8 months ago. All was good. Recently i wanted to reinstall a new "booting" dashboard. So i used AID 2.0.

Major mistake i made was to format the e drive. So no more save games (no more softmod)

Now everytime i boot the Xbox (with or without DVD in it) it gives me a screen saying that it's trying to connect to Xbox Live to check for an update.

Even if i plugg my cable modem in, it says Xbox Live is unavailable. Anybody has a solution ?

Thanks !

I can't help you with this but I see no one has replied to you so hopefully this bump will get someone moving on the topic. I know pirrup has a good reputation with softmods around here so you might want to try to contact him.....Good luck.

I thinked about it, and would like to have your idea on it.

Considering i cannot ftp to the xbox anymore, nor boot with a DVD/CD, what if i change the HD.

Knowing that i don't have a backup of C, E and eeprom on my PC (i know, silly me), what if i take a friend's C, E and eeprom backup ? Connect the HD to my PC, xfer those backups on it (using a tutorial i've seen in the AID 2.0 package, and locking the HD.

Would that work ? Or the HD has to have a specific "link" to the xbox i use ?

Thanks for your thoughts on that !

I can answer the HD question. The HDD is locked to your xbox but can be unlocked "if" you know what the lock # is. Rescue of the softmod most likely will be possible using Pirrups tutorial on hotswapping at:
http://xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-tutorials-161.html
But I would check with one of the softmod experts before performing this function to be sure I am telling you right.

Yeah...you are going to have problems using a friends HDD at this point (unless you happen to have the eeprom.bin HDD key to unlock it). Your best bet, is to follow pirrup's hotswap method and then, once the drive is unlocked, run the xboxhdm 1.9 drive prep (be aware, you could lose all your save games if you don't know how to copy them off or save them over to a memory card).

From the sounds of it, you must have ALSO formated your C: drive (to remove or corrupt the dash boards too). Anyway, I did similar thing (and no way to get the save game exploit back over to the HDD without a dash to boot to...dang!). Grin, learned a lot from that little fiasco.

Finally, a chip mod would also help, because it would allow you to boot unsigned disks, like AID 2.11 Final. That would also fix your problem.

Regards,

-Jhondra

Well, i'll try to explain what really happened.

My box was already using a softmod and had EvoX as the booting Dashboard. So i boot using the AID v2 DVD i made. Format the E drive (which was a big mistake, coz i think all save games are there including the 007 softmod). Then i install the Nkpatcher + MsDash. I installed some dashboard as Apps. So when i boot now, i get a window stating that the xbox is trying to connect to Xbox Live to get an update. I even try to plugg my cable modem in it so that it could update, but it's always saying that Xbox live is unavailable.

Even with an original or copied gamed, it stops at that Xbox Live update window.

I don't have anything to unlock the original HD (the code for it), but i checked the tutorial and it looks interesting.

What happened is that my Xbox has been softmodded by someone. I don't how an original game for that, so that's why i was asking, if it was doable to take the backup of the C, E and eeprom of my friend's xbox to "rebuild" a 40 gigs HD. I was just wondering if taking his eeprom would be ok on my xbox.

Thanks for all your feedback, it's really appreciate.

Since your game saves are gone, then the hotswap is the only answer. It can rebuild the retail dash so you can softmod it again.

I figured out that the hotswap would be a solution, but i would just know if using a 40gigs HD, copying my friend's c drive, e drive and eeprom would do the trick. My friend's box is also softmod using the 007 exploit.

In fact, i just want to know if my eeprom is related to my xbox. If using another eeprom on a bigger HD would work also to have my xbox softmod again, without having to go through the "game exploit" again.

Sorry if i'm not clear in what i'm saying, my primary language is french !

Thanks !

The eeprom code needs to match. The code is stored on both the hdd and mobo. If you use a different hdd, no match...no work Confused
