I have a ver 1.4 xbox at least think is a 1.4 with a Xecuter 2b chip installed along with a Maxtor 200gb 7200 rpm harddrive, it also has the fan mod. It has worked flawlessly for about 2 years now.
In the past couple of days has got to were you can be playing and when it gets warm it pops up the saying that game is dirty and to clean and retry. The games are on the harddrive. It locks up the xbox and the only way to do anything is to reboot it. When you reboot the xecuter 2 logo does not come on and after about a minute it pops up a error code 7 which is harddrive problem. It doesnt matter if you turn the chip off and bypass it (according to the light) it does the same thing. If you wait a few hours and let it cool down it starts up and works fine for about a 1/2 hour again and then starts all over again.
Any ideas???? Harddrive or chip gone bad???? Any help appreciated and thank you

sounds like today would be a great time to start backing up anything on that drive that you want to keep.... give it a couple more weeks, it wont boot at all anymore _________________ .

most drives are about equal, everyone has a horror story about one brand or the other...
any drive that uses normal IDE will work fine. (NOT SATA) _________________ .
