I am using win XP, D-link, flash-ftp and have also tried the ftp://xbox:xbox@192.68.0.200 as suggested (using I.E.) in a tutorial on this site. Notice the .0. vs the .1. below.
The data on the xbox is as follows:
mac 00 00 04 00 00 00
ip 192.168.1.200
sub 255.255.255.0
default 192.168.1.1
DNS 194.63.248.1 or 217.13.7.140
password: xbox
ftp: enabled
The flash-ftp setup for xbox is:
ip address: 192.168.1.200
user name: xbox
password: xbox
port 21
remote path and local path are blank.
Of the xbox data above, I only selected/used the data seen in the flash-ftp
stated above.
windows setup was not altered. I did not go into windows and alter the data there because I thought it needless when using flash-ftp.
I know everything works. I just don't know what else I should have done.
No need to respond with RTFM. If the answer is there, I missed it.
TIA

Can you give a little more info?
What dash are you using?
What type of mod(soft, chip)?
How exactly are you attempting to connect to your box? Are you using a direct link, a router, etc?
Give as much info as you possibly can.

Got in. I read another tutorial. I had to go into the settings and change the 'use ip static' from on to off. Actually it was yes to no.
Good. 1st step done.

I looked inside C and E and can not find such a file. I assume that once I have the C folder, the E folder and eeprom.bin, I don't have to be too concerned about tinkering with the 'guts' because I will be able to replace all the essential data.
I purchased it modded. It works but I want to tinker with it and learn. BUT I don't want to screw it up The person who modded it had a disc that he put into the dvd drive of the xbox and it set up most or all of the xbox. I offered to buy a copy but he refused. Then relented but the price was too high.
Can you verify my assumption of the C folder, the E folder and eeprom.bin as being all the essential data to backing up the system?
and
Where/how do I get this eeprom.bin file I see discussed?
TIA

Hi guyisok
I think it all depends on the dash as to how you backup an eeprom.
If you have evox you can use backup in the systems config menu on the dash. Your backup will be on c: in a folder named backup.
Copy this folder to your PC, it will contain more than just your eeprom.
No need to buy a copy of the disc from the person that modded your xbox because you can create your own here thanks to DJB.

I ftp'ed. In the C partion is evoxdash.xbe and xboxdash.xbe.
The dashboard says slayers. That I found confusing. Course I guess it's simply a matter of what he called it. The dashboard is about one and one-half to two yrs old.
If I had an unmodified xbox, where do I find this 'eeprom.bin'? Would it not be in 'C'? I know this thing boots up. Isn't it necessary for xbox to work?
In the real world, a small electron device exists which is called an eprom or an eeprom (flash device) and it contains a program. The 1st however many instructions must be directly accessible to the cpu. It is often used as the bootstrap device. After that, the programmer can call or jmp or subroutine (or open files *.com, *.bin, *.*) until the program can no longer fit. If he doesn't want the pgm to run, then only 1 instruction need be directly accessible - halt.
For the xecuter 2.6 there is a small switch panel.
Does this eeprom.bin exist in an unmodified box?
I don't have one here to look at.
If it must exist, then where?
Because this machine does work and I can't find the file.
Conclusion: If it's truly not here, then the file does not seem to be necessary - unless it's a sub-function of the data that was placed into the eprom during flashing.
Yes, what's inside eeprom.bin will vary with the dashboard. But that is immaterial to it's existence or need thereof.
For sake of discussion I can't get in touch with the person who modified the box.
Thanks for the feedback. My response is meant for the reader and not directed at you. I don't need to be jerked around with someone who wants to increase his board score. "well tell me more, what kind'a .....".
Totally immaterial as to wheither or not the file must exist and if so where.
Yes, the dashboard is material. File states evox; screen displays slayers.
Your feedback poses more questions since I do not have an unmodified box to begin with. You state, 'Your backup will be on c: in a folder named backup.' Don't you find it odd that xbox would have that in an unmodified box? Either way, I don't have that folder either.

Hi,
You must use TOOLS to get a backup of your eeprom onto your XBOX C:\ Drive..
So boot EVOX DASHBOARD and look for a BACKUP option in the menu somewhere.. If you dont have the backup option you will need to use Auto INstaller Deluxe v2.11 final which has this option.
Once you select the backup option it will backup your eeprom and hddkeys etc to c:\backup\ on your xbox.. You need to choose to run the BACKUP SCRIPT before you will get these files.
Aaah. tools. progress. Thanks fb.
I going to guess I read 'back up' so many times that I overlooked with what - tools. No, I don't really think so but it will do for a start.
I feel like I stuck in catch-22 land. I want to play with (modify) the system. But if I alter it - SLAM! (maybe). Changed the disk just to see what would happen (and looking for eeprom.bin). So I used the ftp number I used before. No ftp data but in about 14 different languages I was informed the system needed repair. Disk was from a v 1.6 so I would have been surprised if it would have worked. But lack of ftp? I don't know how integrated ftp is with either the bios or pgms on the hdd.
So then I was tempted by the idea of changing both the bios and dashboard. What the hell, if I screw it up I can take it by --- and he can bleed me like a chicken . Setting this thing up with 2 year old stuff. I'll try something else. System gets an attitude. I get bled some more by ---. And the wheel turns.
I was just looking at aid 2.0. When I would run aid 2.0 iso updater,
it would alway come back with 'can't create *\temp\media'.
I read where it starts off by eliminating them but I made the files anyway.
Yep, it eliminated the paths. Should I just try downloading it again?
anyone else report such an error?
TIA

hi,
Once you get a backup of your eeprom.bin file and other hddkey files etc you will be laughing.. You can always get your system back working one way or another with those vital files.
So really, just go and try and find the backup feature.. I cant remember exactly where it as right now coz ive had a huge weekend.
Once you choose the backup option from either EVOX DASBOARD or AIDELUXE somewhere in the menu you should find some files in C:\BACKUP\
Copy those files to your pc and then you can experiment with installing new dashboards etc..
If you had a modchip installed you would find things so much easier..
You could always boot AID no matter what happens and format/install stuff that is missing..
Thanks Fh, sorry about the fb. Type-o.
Yea, I'm sure that once I get in and feel comfortable about what I am doing, I'll start to wonder what all this fuss was about - but not for long. I'll give it a couple days rest before I attempt it though. I want to psych myself up for it as well as do other things. I know the thing to do is get right back on the bike.
Sunday is a big day here for football.
Won't keep you any longer.
Thanks
