because I'm having trouble locking a harddrive, and I have 2 friends with the exact same model of HD, locked, in their xboxes. if not, then I must be doing something wrong, but I can't possibly think what it is...

I've run into a similar situation with mine as well, but luckily I have more than one computer. It seems my Athlon64 system can't lock the HDD's even though it can create them without incident, but my AthlonXP system can create and lock them with no problem. So my solution was to use the AthlonXP system now for creating and locking HDD's for XBOXes, and leaving my A64 for other tasks like FTP'ing and DVD creation.
The first thing I'd do in your case is try using another computer. If that doesn't work, then you'll want to try backing up your EEPROM with EvoX again and burning another Xboxhdm DVD. Hope that helps. _________________ XBOX V 1.0 (softmod)

I was thinking that it could be my computer, but my extra computer restarts every time it runs a cd-rom, so I can't use it. I guess I gotta go to a friends house and tear his computer apart

If you're in the market for lockable XBOX HDD's, then try these lists.
These should help you narrow one down nicely. I'd personally recommend getting as large a drive you can find, with the largest cache you can find, and a spin speed of 5400 RPMs.
The spin speed will reduce excess heat inside the system, and the transfer speeds versus a 7200 RPM HDD are negligible unless you have an 80-conductor (ATA-133 compatable) cable, and you can't get those unless you know someone that makes custom ribbons or buy one from LLAMA's site. Hope this aids you in solving the locking problems. _________________ XBOX V 1.0 (softmod)
