Hey, after waiting patiently for the Steel Squat map for Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory to become available for the Xbox somewhere other than Live, my patience has grown too thin. If anyone knows where I can download this from the net to put onto my Xbox, please tell me, but in the meantime, I figured I'd try something else.
I have a legal copy of the game, so surely if I reverse the softmod and log into Live (using my friend's account he's lent me) I can download the free maps and simply reinstall the softmod, right? I was just wondering what I'd need to do in order to do this, I have two boxes softmodded, both with SID3 and one with a new 80gb hard drive, does this prove a problem?
What do I need to do in order to not get banned? Can I keep all the games on the Xbox with the larger hard drive? Or will I need to delete them and load them back on again? Cheers.

My understanding is that you can indeed "reverse" out the softmod and make the box "legal" again. As to how... I need to leave it to those that have done or at least know that procedure.
If I may, I'm going to bump you over to the softmod area so that those experts can find and respond to your inquiry. _________________ http://twitter.com/HQ_Shark2th

My softmodded xbox still ahs the stock HDD, so I dont know if changing it causes a problem. Otherwise to safely go back on xbox live, just restore the MS BACKUP. both the ms backup and mod backup can remain on the E drive.
My e drive has these backups, a high def episode of the oc, a psx emulator and bushido blade, and a megadrive emulator with games and I can go on xbox live fine with the MS backup restored. As long as you dont attempt to use modified content, then you should be ok

Cheers, can anyone confirm or deny whether the same works for a replaced HD? I just don't want to take any risks on my friend's Live account.

from my understanding they don't ban the account but they ban the eeprom on your xbox. and i think as long as your xbox is "legal" ypu should be fine because they search to see if they have any files that don't belong there. but thats comin from me. _________________ xbox v1.0

So you're saying I should delete all the content from my HD that didn't come with the stock HD?

I've read that if you installed SID3 and patched with PBL+M$dash, you can cold boot and original game and stilll get on XBL. Has anyone tried this yet?

I do not "use" xboxlive, but, have it connected to test Xboxes I take in
on exchange, just to make sure they haven't been banned. I have UNdone
two softmodded Xboxes in the last couple weeks and they connect fine. I
start the softmod, then, format the drive and reinstall everything stock,
reboot, and remove the game saves One connects, but I don't use live, so
don't know what would happen if I tried to do anything. The second
belonged to a kid who wanted to play Halo2 with modified maps. HIS
connected to live the day they did the "update" he was playing for about
an hour and, he told me that he suddenly got a message that he was
using "modified content" and banned him. Haven't talked with him since,
but, from what I understand in THAT instance, he was just banned from
Halo2, and, probably only for a week.
As far as the larg hard drive goes, from what I understand, the FIRST
time you go on live, they take some information, part of which is the HD
serial number. If your xbox hasn't been on live, I HAVE HEARD that you
should be able to log on with your large HD and be ok. If you have been
online before, there may be a problem. My suggestion to people who ask
is to have two Xboxes. One modded and one for live. NEVER put any
modded content on the Live xbox. Another option is the Xtender, I have
purchased one of these, but, not installed it yet. It lets you have several
HDs all independent of each other. Should do the trick with ONE Xbox.

I can confirm that any hdd works. Thats if you haven't connected to live before so as long as you haven't used your mates account with the stock HDD you'll be find.
Thanks

If you backed up your hd during the mod process and didnt mess with the bios, then yes you can just overwrite the softmod with the backup and your xbox is legal again.
just a note, backup the softmod to a different folder on the E drive so you can mod it again.
