This will be long-winded. Sorry for that but I want to explain to you the difficulties that I, as a novice, am presented with. Believe this is taken from ‘SOFTMOD INSTALLER DELUXE v2.0’

A: Use my Softmod Installer Deluxe v2.0

B: Make a backup of your C Drive by doing a MS Backup
Q: Copy *.* ? Or use the back-up utility in Windows. Will either method work?
I’ve used the backup pgm in windows XP to back up the entire OS. But it asks if I want to back up data or the system info. Although I know what a system means, I do not
know what the pgm means by its use of the word i.e. the entire O.S. or for example
windows/system32/*.*, etc. Precisely what?
Oh, how am I (i.e. the computer) supposed to distinguish between the ‘C’ drive on the computer vs the ‘C’ drive on the xbox?

C: Using the in-built file manager, delete ALL the files from C Drive. The reason we do this is because the softmod doesn't like old dashboards. ( Okay but I’ll be coming back to this later.)

D: Install your softmod and Evox dash or dash of your choice

E: Turn off your Xbox, and insert Auto-Installer Deluxe v1.01
( Looks like that can be altered to v2.0 or v2.02 now)

F: Install the MS Dashboard from there.

G(a): Go back and re-install your softmod from the mod menu.
Q: Hmmm. MS out, Soft in, MS in (which takes soft out). Am I back where I started?
Or is it the Evox (dash) that will over-ride the advisory from ‘C’ which states that,
“The reason we do this is because the softmod doesn't like old dashboards” ?
No, can’t be the Evox dash, I’m told NOT to install it in the next step.

G(b): Don't install dashboard yet.
G(c): Now, use the Patch MS 5960 option.
Q: So far this has been simply a mental exercise. Is the MS 5960 an option I will see on the screen or a software package. How do I ‘use’ (load) MS 5960?

H: install Evox dashboard or dashboard of choice

Whew! Ok, onto FTP. If a router is used and if a router assigns the ip address automatically, how can the evox.ini file be modified to something one does not know the answer? (expected ip address for the xbox is 192.168.0.3.) All I'm really looking for is a connfirmation that once
the xbox reports its address is 192.168.0.3 it will not change.

From Basic Networking Using Evox
Instructions: 1. If you are using a router, such as a Linksys BEFSR41, it is already acting as a DHCP server. So it will automatically assign your Xbox a dynamic IP address.

From EvolutionX for Dummies
· Note: If you are planning on connecting your Xbox to your network using a hub or router, you will most likely have to modify your evox.ini to accommodate your customized network.

If a crossover wire is used, how do say, “Dear Xbox, what is your ip address?” I can’t do a netstat or ipconfig.

TIA

first download AID2 and all his updates ;

in AID2 you find SID3 (softmod files)
put these files on AR or memcard
copy the save game to your xbox using MS dash savemanager
run splinter cell , 007 or MA and load the savegame
now you will boot the SID3 menu
chose option take MS backup ( this is all in the menu and not on a pc)
now chose install softmod
when this is done chose install dashboard (evox or unleachx)
reboot your xbox and boot AID2 in your xbox (don't forget to update your iso with iso updater)
now you are in AID2 menu
go to softmod section
chose install nkpatcher + MS dash
when this is done don't reboot your xbox yet or you are fucked!
go back to main menu
chose softmod section again
now chose install dashboard
install C dashboard
anything then ms dash Smile c:\evoxdash.xbe
when this is done you can install all the apps and emulators you want (main menu)
now your xbox is softmodded and filled with apps

reboot without AID and you are done

cheers

Thanks for such a timely response. Ok, I'll tinker around for a while.
My son plays the games. I will have to check with him
on some of the hardware items.

That looks more straight forward and easier until I get to the point where I'll be fucked. Is that where the backup data became necessary or
is there a recovery?

Also I am assuming that putting the data on the memcard replaced the
FTP stuff. I'm merely accessing the xbox differently.

Best regards
