Just bought a new Halo SE Xbox. Anyway to tell if it's a dreaded v1.6 without opening the box up? or without opening the Xbox up? I know there are charts to help you determine your version, but I'm wondering if they are still valid....

But, it seems that this area hasn't been updated since late 2003 so it's doubful. If you open it and find that you do have the 1.6 version all may not be lost. I hear modchip companies are looking to find these/purchase these units so they can get a chip for them asap. I am sure you can get a pic of the Xcalibur chip to reference. From memory I think it's a v1.5
I might be wrong, but just do some searching around google, xbox-scene.com etc.

i installed a APPLEXV into a GREEN HALO SE XBOX and had no problems.. It was a v1.5 just like DJB says..
It was only like 1 month ago i did it.. Its working perfect for my mate..

But do you think there's a chance some could be v1.6? Hopefully they made all of them at once, on the same line, but I've heard some Halo SE DVD drives are Samsung, others Thomson. This makes me wonder if there is a possibility of some being v1.6. I asked the Wal-Mart clerk to give me the oldest, dustiest Halo box they had.

Hm, that would make you think after hearing that. If there is a Second Edition it could possibly be a 1.6, but as of yet there's no confirmation about it. The only thing I can think of (if possible) is to see if you can find or get a picture of the 1.5 motherboard and compare it to the Halo SE Console. Then again, they might have just simply changed the DVD Drive. It's hard to tell when there's no solid facts...

I think I found something to help you find out but you need to open it the 1.6 has an Xcalibur chip instead of a Focus or Conexant.

I've read some forum posts where people have landed the 1.6 There are devolpment teams looking to actually buy one of these puppies so they can chip it. There are pics on the net to be found. I have seen a few, but never bookmarked. They must be rare. I also have the halo edition and was worried about this. I've read in many many different places that none of the Halo editions are the 1.6 versions. They are 1.4 and 1.5's. _________________ Halo SE Xbox

I believe Kevinjonesjr is right aboutthe Halo edition xboxs. to my knowledge none of them are version 1.6. From the other forums I've read, the 1.6's come in the normal black case. _________________ XBOX v1.0:
