Hey everyone.
I tried to softmod my xbox just now and all seemed to go well, followed the instructions to the letter.
When i restarted the xbox i got a message saying something like "completer update ...." it's only on screen for a few seconds then i get a message box on-screen saying "Xbox live is not responding, please try again later". Selecting ok gives me another box saying "Xbox live is updating your system please don't turn off...." then it goes back to the first cant connect screen?
The xbox is connected to my router and should be able to connect tot he net if it needs to.
What have i done wrong?

I'm not sure I'd let it connect to Xbox Live if it's a softmod.
May be a real good way to get yourself banned.
You should be able to boot to a dashboard though and surf the net.
Is that right softmodders? _________________ http://twitter.com/HQ_Shark2th

I'm not even registered for live, which makes it even more confusing as to why i keep getting the message.
Is there anyway I can get the xbox back to it's previous state? As it stands now: it's just a big crystal box gathering dust.

If you can still boot your xbox with your original game, try SID 3.
your msdash.xbe needs to swap names
with your xboxdash.xbe
if you can boot the softmod again
from your disk just rename those
files and that should fix it.

Okay, I've just found that i can boot games. Just booted up splinter cell to try and get the softmod again but it only asks me to create a new profile - no sign of the 'Linux' one.
Is there another way of getting the game saves onto the hard drive? I used an action replay thing to do it the first time.

You can use the Action Replay hardware, but you'll need an official Xbox memory card. There has been noted problems with 3rd party/Action Replay memory cards...

But how do I get the saves onto the drive? Booting the xbox without a game simply takes me to that 'live loop'. And I can't see any way of accesing the memmory card from the game menu...

I have got the same problem. Games can be saved onto the xbox but can't be viewed in the dashboard. Nothing can be located and when you try to it just tries updating via xbox live which then fails. Nothing else can be accessed on the dashboard and only original games can be loaded onto the system. Any help to sort would be most appreciated

In this case I don't know what you could do apart from either getting a modchip, or creating a new hdd for the xbox.

Seen something about updating xbox live via updates from xbox live games. Would these work in getting the hard drive back to its original state. Seems it would work but not allow future softmods. Advise would be mucho appreciated.

Ok. I have just modded my box using the Splinter Cell hack, with SID 3 and then AID 2.02. Everything went perfect. I backed up C:/, installed new dashboard (Evo), i even got down to installing apps, and emulators. I turned off, and restarted with the drive open, and i also got the xbox live loop.
I followed the advice and restarted with Splinter Cell, and i am able to re-load SID 3. But when i restart my xbox, it goes back to the xbox live loop thing.
When i start the SID 3, what should i reinstall / do to get rid of this live loop?
Many thanks

*bump* I haven't found the resolution to this yet myself, so I thought I'd bump it and see what we can do. There are others experiencing this same issue and it would be nice to have a resolution for them. _________________ http://twitter.com/HQ_Shark2th

Ok. It has been a few days and i have tried to turn on the xbox and now it wont load the original games, so i can't even try again to use SID. BJD advised me to get a MOD chip or use the tutorial to get a new HDD.
Is there anyway to d/load an ISO of the c:/ drive and copy it over the existing corrupted c:/ and then your fixed? I have read that you would need to unlock, copy it then lock. So i guess this is the new HDD option.
Where can i get a MOD chip with someone to install it in the US?
I have just tried to FTP to my xbox then look at the c:/ but can;t figure out how to find the IP address without the SID/ AID screen up.
some much help would be appreciated. I am mega bummed out.
