Hi Guys,

Has anyone seen any tutorials on how to put an Xbox DVD-Rom in your PC? I thought it might be nice to be able to create iso files for burning with out the need to network the Xbox with my PC. It may get the job done faster and you would still be able to play games during the process.
I have found a lot of info on putting a PC DVD-Rom in to an Xbox but not the other way around.

Thanks for any info!

as far as i know, it is not possible because of the proprietry connector for power, this connector also carries the trigger for the firmware that enables the drive to read the data portion of the disc as opposed to the 10 second video you get if you put it into anything else but an xbox. also this trigger is not simply a power lead or else you would be able to read original discs from linux running on the box and if i remember correctly this is not possible. however if someone is able to trace this lead back to its call ie dissassemble the xbox bios to the point that it could be run on a pc, either as a bios or as an application and then made a custom connector to attach the drive to the pc mptherboard then in theory it should be possible.

another idea could be if you had the pc and xbox motherboards side by side, then the power could come from the xbox and the ide cable could run to the pc then when the pc called a disc access the xbox would sense the call for the firmware trigger, send it and then the drive would read it as any normal disc. If anyone has tried this cold you let me know if im way off base here

That's a great Idea, I have an extra broken Xbox for parts. It may still be good to use as a power supply. I will have to give it a try.

Thank again. Smile
