"There will be two versions of Xbox Live. Silver is free (everyone gets it), and Gold is a paid subscription, like the current XBL. It looks like Xbox Live will be free on the weekends for everyone; Gold members will get it all the time, obviously. Current Xbox Live accounts will carry over to the 360 and become Gold Xbox Live accounts."

Does this mean that the current xbox live service will end on the release
of the 360? what if i don`t want a 360 and i still have 6 months of XBL
subscription?

does seem like a long shot but if sega or snk brought out another machine
then MS wouldn`t get another bean outta me.

(must go and get another copy of Return To Castle Wolfinstien before it all ends Shocked )

the live service will be universal, it does not matter which console you are using, you could infact have the same account on an xbox 1 and xbox 360 (a must if they dont sort this backwards compatability problem)

One thing this does mean that all your rich mates can send invites to 360 games to xbox 1 owners, even tho they can not play it.

The Other thing is the silver subscription, which basicly allows all users to engage in voice / video chat, download content for any game, play MMORPG games and download Live arcade games. What you dont get is the ability to play multiplayer games like PGR3. Multiplayer is reserved for Gold members, except on a few promotional days as yet to be announced where everyone will be temporerilly upgraded to gold in order to entice the silver subscribers by showing em what they are missing.
