I did my 12 volt fan mod about 2 weeks ago. Although it is cool (pardon the pun), it is driving me crazy. It is so loud. No reason for this post, just had to get this frustration out of me. But if you are planning on doing this mod, make sure to do it the y-adapter way instead of cutting the cable, that way you can reverse it back to original if it bothers you like it does me.

Did you actually install a 12v fan or did you just rig up the orginal 6v fan? That is WAY too loud.... you should just buy an 80mm 12V fan. Then, round out the corners so it fits.

You then just have to whack off the brackets that hold the fan in and zip tie it to the metal vent holes. Then get the 12v fan adapter cable that has the splitter you mention and do the connection that way. It is soooooo quiet. You will also have to cut portion of the HD tran so that the fan will fit, but it's worth it in the long run.

Get a potetntiometer from Radio shack (variable resistor) and that should give you a chance to adjust the speed.

I did the mod with the molex splitter, but instead of a plastic one, I got a nice aluminum cased one cheap and cut out the square grill on the plastic, it gives me extra room for the extra cables I have in there. Sure it sticks out a little bit more but the box stays cools inside. Also, I noticed a little snow on the screen after doing it and wrapped the plastic base of the AV plug , so I made a cheap RF shield out of tinfoil.

Get rid of that shit stock fan, its crappo

I was just looking at a spare xbox
fan that i have and the sticker
on it says that it is 12v?
my xboxs all run at around 50.C
with stock fans.

I've always found the noise of the
rumble motors more anoying.
Pads are nice and light without
them aswell.
