Hello all,

Here is my problem, I used to have a very nice softmodded box until I let my friends play it.... I made the mistake of leaving the slayers 2.6 and AID 101 disks within reach... they accidentilly (yea right!!!) deleted my entire f: drive, and tried to fix it using one if not both of the installers... now all I get is an error 13 or 16 (has to do with the dashboard) I can't even load an original game, let alone the installers. But!!! I have a friend with a chip modded box. I think this will work, just tell me if I go wrong somewere....
(I forgot to say that I did make a backup of my hdd with xbhdm, good thing)

First: Take the backup of my eeprom off of xboxhdm and put it on the chip modded xbox. (Making sure to copy chip box eeprom to the computer so I can later replace it)

Second: I can take the hdd out of the chip box and replace it with mine...it should unlock it as if it were in my original box.

Third: I can then utilize the Slayers 2.6 or AID 101 and reformat my hdd.

Fourth: Put the chip xbox eeprom from the computer back on the chip box.

Fifth: Replace the hdd's and enjoy!!!

If I might have messed up anywere, I would enjoy the criticism or praise whatever you have for me... I just need some feedback before I try this so I dont muck it up for good.

Alternativily, I could just put a chip in my xbox... but that would kind of defeat the purpose of my hardwork softmodding.

p.s. sorry about the length Smile

Hi TREFALKM,

Sounds good to me.. Ive been chatting with quite a few members lately who have had similar probs with their softmods but it seems a "HOTSWAP" will work just fine..

Go for it.. Doesnt sound like you missed anything to me.. As long as you have all your info backed up you should be sweet to go.

Let us know how you go too.. Im sure you wil have it back up and running in no time.

Also, if you think of it just jot down the steps you are taking so at the end you can submit a cool tutorial to help other softmodders.

anyway, enjoy HQ and talk soon

regards from australia,

forahobby

all you need to do is a hotswap

I had a guy that did same like your friend did and he came back to me.

so what to do :

download xboxhdm
make a boot cd with the backup from the xbox (c and e drive)
remove the cover from the broken softmodded xbox
remove the hd out the tray
loosen the xbox ide cable from the hd (so it will come of easy)
remove the ide cable from the xbox dvd drive also
put the pc next to the xbox and make sure ide0 is free (removed from the hd in your pc)
k now your ready to start Smile
boot your pc and just before it checks the ide drives press pause
Now boot your xbox and around 8 seconds when the ring first flashes red unplug ide and connect it to the ide from your pc.
Now your hd is unlocked until powerloss
press space so pc boots further.
Now the menu comes up from xboxhdm press 2 and enter
now you can restore all, or just rebuild it from scratch

power off
hd will lock
put the hd back in the softmodded xbox

FIXED Smile

Pirrup,

I was going to do a hot swap and use my xbhdm that I had all ready made, but I'm deployed in Japan right now and only have a laptop at my disposal... so... I was trying to figure out another way to do it, without the use of a desktop... plus it can help others in my situation when I post my conclusion. But, thank you for your help anyway, it should help others with the same prob. with a desktop... plus, thats usualy how I make upgraded hdd's when I softmod other people's boxs.

P.S. I havn't had time to fix it yet, were getting ready for a deployment and have too much work right now... I think I will have time tonight, I'll keep you posted...

Thanks again, TREFALKM Cool

Ok, so this is what I ended up doing...

I had: 1 busted softmod box (dash error 16)
1 eeprom backup of sofmod box (in file named softeeprom)
1 chip modded box
1 laptop
a copy of config magic
a copy of flashfxp (ftp program on pc)

This is how I fixed my box.

I turned on the chipped box and ftp'd into it using flashfxp (alternativly you could use any ftp program to do this) I then found the "ConfigMagic" folder under my "Apps" folder... within this folder is another called "Data" whithin that folder are some files...i.e. eeprom.bin, and eeprom.cfg... I copied these files to the laptop in a file named "chippedboxeeprom". After that I deleted the files "EEPROM.bin and EEPROM.cfg" from the chipped box, and replaced them with the softmod backups "EEPROM.bin and EEPROM.cfg" from here I didn't turn off the box or disconect from the ftp I just went on the xbox itself and ran ConfigMagic

When in ConfigMagic I preformed these steps:
1 Unlock HD
2 Load eeprom from .bin file
3 Update xbox eeprom
4 Load xbox eeprom
5 Lock HD

When this was completed I could now take the softmodded hdd and put it directly into the chipped box. because the chipped box is basically a mirror image of the softmod box now, it can unlock and lock the softmod box's hdd.

After the soft hdd was in the chipped box I just ran an auto installer disk (I used AID 101) and reformatted the entire hdd. I also added all the apps, emulators, and a hacked dashboard (avalaunch).

I then took the hdd out and put it back in the softmod box... and replaced the chipped box hdd. Ftp'd back into the chipped box and and replaced the eeprom.bin and eeprom.cfg with the chipped box's origanal eeprom files. Ran ConfigMagic and repeated steps 1 through 5... Now the chipped box is back to normal.

I did run into two problems, I'll go over them one at a time.

1. When I put the softmod hdd back in the softmod box it should have loaded up Avalaunch as the dashboard but it did'nt... It loaded up the original MSdash... so I had to preform the softmod on it utilizing a savegame exploit. (I used the Splinter Cell) while inside unleashX I applied the softmod and installed the evoxdash, and put the AID 101 disk back in, installed the hacked dashboard Avalaunch again, and it worked like a charm, everything that I had installed with AID in the chipped box was still on the hdd. PROBLEM FIXED...

2. After I had the hdd in and all was working well, I noticed that the hdd wasn't reading in full, it was a 250gig reading the f: at 124gig or somewhere close to that, and with the G: enabled all the G: showed was error. After thinking long and hard I remembered that there was a handy little tool called XBpartitioner. Using this program I set the F: and the G: to read the exact same space about 115gig to 120gig, and restarted the box, enabled the G: in Avalaunch, rebooted and it now showed an F: and a G: with equal amounts of space, giving me my full potental hdd space.

Hope I could help a few of you out...

It works great too... I just got another box with an executer2 chip in it running the m16 bios and modded my friends the way I described above. I think it's a little easier to softmod this way then with xbhdm... I'm not saying a chipped box is better then a soft box.... they both have there advantages.

p.s. I'm on my box posting this message right now using xdsl. It's a small linux program run under your dash. You should look into it, dslxbox.com

one question, if you had an eeprom backup and a hdd backup y not just plug the xbox hdd into pc, and use xboxhdm to rebuild drive? sounds like a lot less hassle

yea, you could just use your backups to make a cd-r and run xbhdm from the computer, but xbhdm takes a little longer to make the hdd... I can complete a softmod in 20min with a chipped box...
