I have a Crystal cased Unmodded PAL XBox, I live in England and my Girlfriend in the states sent me a copy of Halo2 for Christmas, when she told me i had to upset her a little by telling her it probably wouldnt work because it would be a NSTC version and we run on Pal,i have no modchip in it as far as i know,Dvds dont work as i dont have a playback kit, although i didnt buy the Xbox(i won it on a TV competition ).
I asked in a game shop before it arrived and much to my dismay the guy in the shop said it wouldnt work.
When it arrived i tried it anyway just for kicks and to my suprise it worked perfectly! , from start to begining (apart from an occasional slight freeze/delay after continuing my save profile), how come?
There is probably a reasonable explanation for this, but i always thought that NTSC things would not work over here, i used to have a modded PSone and i thought one of the reasons why people modded thier consoles was because they wanted to run US or Japanese games on their UK/European console
Can anyone give an explanation how it worked? And Also as im going back to the states later on this month, if i buy more NSTC games over there will they work too?any comments appreciated!

was the game an original disk or a backup/copy of an original?
If it was a backup, it's possible that the game may have been patched to de-region with no media check.
That's the only logical explanation I can think of if the box def has no chip or soft-mod.
Hope that helps _________________ Regards

Unless microsoft purposly didnt put region checks on halo 2......either that or yours doesnt have em and its a messup. If it is a production error throw it on ebay and you'll probably get t ton of money for it. But honestly, no clue why it works in all logic it shouldnt work _________________ Xbox v1.0

Thanx for the reply Beast , No its definately an original copy of Halo 2,i dont get it , maybe i should rip a game to a cd, try it on my Xbox and see what happens? or better still, maybe i should have a look inside!!! ive still got to look anyway as im not 100% what my version is, i only know its not covered in the version tutorial thingie where you do the serial number and date thing,
I would be very suprised if it was premodded as i won it in a competition on fox kids uk (although the retail box it came in had no plastic covering so i take it it had been opened before coming to me?)i dont know but ive bought several new playstation2's before from shops and they came in a plastic wrapping (like on a packet of cigarettes) to show it hasnt been opened.
Any more views on this subject would be appreciated from anyone as i do think this is unusual _________________ Pal Crystal Xbox V1.6

Thanx Andrew Yes, I suppose that makes sense, but if they did that why dont they do it on all games?, well ive had my first experiment on taking my XBox to bits(and back together and it still works YAY! ), DEFINATELY no modchip and now i know for sure its a v1.6.
What i will do is bring back one of my stepsons games or buy one over in the states, bring it back and try it, ill make it a non microsoft game, i think he has a spare copy of that rap wrestlin game Def Jam summat so i'll try that here, if it works ill sell my XBox for loads on ebay as a production muckup or on here in my classifieds(i think thats what thats for)im sure someone wil be intersted and use the cash for some good modding on another XBox Anyone else who has any ideas on this subject all input appreciated _________________ Pal Crystal Xbox V1.6

Since Halo 2 had an international release date they may not have bothered region coding the game as there was very little chance of people importing it.

Thanx Panda , that is always possible, but, that being the case, why would they bother putting NSTC on the box?
Might as well put that it is multiregional or not put any region format on it at all.
I guess the only way to find out is to get a game from the states and try it out on mine.
Any more thoughts or a definative answer welcomed and appreciated. _________________ Pal Crystal Xbox V1.6

Is the game image NTSC? I mean, do you have any non-NTSC TVs in your house that you can check it on? Because whilst the region locking for different regioned consoles might be the same, the video type might be different. Or is that simply determined by the XBOX region?
If not, then it's probably just because they have a template for making games covers which they must work around for various regions.
This reminds me of when I was younger, I had a mix of "Genesis" and "Mega Drive" branded games for my Mega Drive, for some reason some boxes in the UK still used the US name, maybe they were just lazy.
