I have the xbit chip..been using it for about 6 months now.. just receintly i had my 200gig hd crash.... so i put in a temp 20 gig... well what happens is that when i power on my xbox at the xbox screen it will just freeze.....if i power it off and back on it does the same thing..makes wierd noises... could it be a bios problem.. i have never seen this before... should i just try a bios upgrade??

Sounds very much like a bios issue. I had a problem with a machine a few months ago. Basically, it was blowing mobo's left and right. Not to the point to where it was the same each time too. First, I couldn't power it down once it was turned on. Then the next motherboard fragged, then the next motherboard would start the splash screen and then as the flubber screen was, well, flubbering it would just freeze.
Turned out the Power Supply was shorting creating different failures in the motherboard. I replaced the motherboard and PS and it worked fine from there on out.
Now, if your flubber screen is loading the whole way and then just freezing before the word, "Microsoft" appears at the bottom of the X, then that is exactly what is happening. No bios is loading.
